that gravity stand is tempting but i'm so worried that it might fail that may cause the bikes to crash into my car..
Bought the Donatello Gravity Stand a few years back when it was on sale from Woot. Have absolutely zero regrets. It freed up space in our extra room where we store bikes.. I have our Kuat rack on the bottom hooks, while our daughter's bike is stored up top. Our stand is secured to a stud in a wall using their simple, yet effective, fastener and it's been rock solid.

The Donatello rack rests against the wall and can hold 2 bikes up to 30 lb each (Total 60 lb) with no drilling required

Would the delta hanging pulley be good to hold a car cargo box?

any good ways/ideas to store a bike with 27.5+ wheels and super wide handlebars? I feel like no matter what I do it's going to stick obnoxiously off the wall but looking for some options

Bike hoists/lifts might be a better option for you. I use the $10 ones from Harbor Freight, but I've heard good things about ones from Amazon too

If the hooks on the Donatello is the same as the Michelangelo, the rubber will split. It is really soft. I recommend wrapping the hooks when new with self-amalgamating tape as a precaution. Don't even try this with an e-bike. I never had any issues with the bikes falling but the Michelangelo made me nervous enough to upgrade to the rad cycle aluminum stand, which is a friction stand not gravity. Donatello should be perfect to use in a rental.

I have a similar rack. It hold road bike and older MTB fine but newer MTB got wider handlebar and won't fit on there. do some measurement before buying like how far the frame hood is from the wall and how wide your handlebar is.

Does the gravity stand require a wall to lean against? Or does it work free floating without a wall?

According to the product description: ".. this bike storage rack simply rests against the wall of your home or garage and relies on gravity to stabilize the anchoring legs."
