Does the palm include fingerprints? Because I could see that being a huge security risk.

My SO did this as part of a pilot program for Amazon employees at a DC Whole Foods last year.
As I recall it really is just holding your palm a few inches above a scanner. But it may have changed since then. Definitely no fingerprints at the time.

More data for amazon to sell to the government so they can get even more tax breaks! I don't know why everyone isn't lining up for this deal.

Shhhh, next thing you'll tell me is that the genealogy test sites were set up Knowing they would get huge offers from the government for their records just a few years after they started. Shhhaw. As if.

I'm considering to draw a smiley face on my palm and bend all my fingers when registering this.

The danger in using biometrics as security as they cannot be changed. You can change a PIN or a password but not your fingerprints, retina, etc. No this is not Minority Report.

I'm a computer science educator and can honestly say that this is the biggest risk in using biometrics. However, the scans are turned into data which *should* be encrypted each-and-every time you use it. Also, the data stored should be local to your person meaning you use a device you OWN for the actual scan which is encrypted as data and transmitted to a hub for processing on servers. Once verified, the local data on your personal device is destroyed which means it can't be replicated again without your consent (another scan on YOUR device). As I understand this tech, you use Amazon's device here (scanner). This isn't your data then. You can't be sure it's deleted. So basically, this is low on the "I trust this" scale.

I continue to be amazed, and disappointed, by the lack of knowledge by the American people when it comes to the U.S. Government. You do know that Amazon and the DOD (Department of Defense) are in bed with each other, right? Here is some light reading for you. https://search.brave.com/search?q...ce=desktop

Ignorance is bliss.
