I was recently charged 149.79 for the annual Disney plus service with out ads. When I called customer service to cancel it based on the price increase, I was told I could add the Disney Plus basic to my already established Hulu Student account.

I assume you have to have the student account to get this to work. But if you do go into your account settings, there you will find a billings page with optional add-ons to your plan. Once you click that you will see an option to add Disney plus with ads to your Hulu account. NOTE: this can only be done thru your Hulu.com profile account and on Google chrome, not via the app or Disney website.

Total I am now being billed monthly is 4.27 for both streaming services vs the $9.99 monthly bundle price for the same services.

That's what happened to me they offered me the same deal but I declined because I'm hoping that Black Friday will give me the year. I hope that Disney taking over doesn't ruin it and does the right thing for there customers

you can cancel the 6 months offers and create a new acct for the BF deals (if they offering the same thing as last year)

I always cancel the BF deal about one month early. Then I use my second email and a different credit card to signup for the new BF deal. Last year I got Hulu plus add-free Disney for about $5 per month.

I canceled mine a few days ago. They charged me $139 and got the refund. I only used it 1 - 2x in a year. Not worth the price anymore. I'd rather spend $139 to purchase the movies and own them forever.

Disney+ isn't even worth it anymore lol. They are crazy to think they can increase the subscription rate and then also have the balls to restrict password sharing.

I was just today charged $79.99 for my annual Disney+ Premium sub. It's likely that I had that locked in for renewal because of my original 3-year $140 subscription.

Weird, I had Disney+ from the beginning and cancelled a few weeks ago. No offer has been shared. Maybe you meant Hulu? I know Hulu tries to keep you but I haven't seen that with Disney+.

cancelled last week due to the price bump. I've had it since launch and got the early 3 year deal. Now, the value isn't there anymore. Maybe if they can bundle this with Hulu Live, I'll be back. Might take them a bit to figure out how to bundle all these services tho.

I hate to say it but the golden age (for customers) of the Streaming Wars is over. I guess we could see a similar deal as last Black Friday for this combo, but I doubt it.

All these streaming platforms have shifted from "acquire and keep subscribers at any cost" to "we need to start making money on this" for several reasons:

1. they were mostly subsidizing costs for us compared to what they were paying to third parties, licensing, residuals, creation content, etc. It wasn't even close.
2. Consolidation is happening, and will accelerate...meaning less competition. Easier to pitch yourself to a buying company if your financials show black instead of red
3. shareholders! They're tired of losing money! This last one is more indirect, but it is absolutely creating pressure for all these companies to increase efficiency and profitablity instead of sub growth.
