TBW is really just the manufacturer's limit of liability for warranty purposes. I have several old SSDs that still work fine, despite exceeding power on hours and TBW claims. It's not like they just magically up and die once you cross that number.

Remember when Hyundai came out with their 100k mile warranty? They were notoriously unreliable back then and nobody was going to pay a premium for them when you could get similar warranties from Honda and Toyota, known reliable brands. Hyundai accepted the increased risk of warranty claims to get their prices up to fuel quality improvements.

This drive for $70 is a good price. It's a known reliable drive.

For $80, you could get a 2TB TeamGroup MP34. It has a 5 year warranty and rated at 2,000 TBW. It benchmarks faster and also uses better TLC memory. But is it really as reliable as a proven Intel drive? Probably not. I will say first-hand that the 1TB MP34 has worked just fine for my purposes.

This one. TBW doesnt mean anything for storage only, since you are not going to write that much. Think about it, the TBW is like max speed. Someone says car A can go 200 mph and another can go 250 mph, will that factor in your decision? 740TBW is plenty. Most people will write 60-160TB in 5 years.

what has been the lowest price for these drives?
$63 per CCC, although sellers are creating new listings to obscure price histories.

Does it matter if gen 3 or 4 if it's only for data storage? 2tb sounds cheap for $50, i only use to store movies in my htpc, some documents, photos, nothing else
Nope but the QLC 3D NAND does.

Yes some motherboards don't support Gen 4 only Gen 3.

Its fine, large writes hurt least. That being said if you slam this drive when almost full its going to slow down big time on writes, shouldn't matter too much for media though.

TBW is 740, so if has a shorter life span than most of the other drives
TBW is a warranty period, how long it actually lasts depends on the kind of writes, large sequential less bad. I'm sure it has a write life on par with most qlc memory.

TLC is better of course, but you pay the difference.

The PCIe specs are backwards compatible; you can put Gen 4 SSDs into Gen 3 motherboards.

Might be better served with an HDD for file storage. But ya it'll work fine. For the vast majority of users the speed of gen3 is just fine
