this can mesh too
Tough call, one problem is there are barely any wifi7 clients, and to add insult to injury the BE96 isn't even ASUS' top wifi router nor their top "rapture" line - that would be the GT-BE98 which probably will be $799 or more. And, like wifi6, it may not be until the 2nd wave of wifi7 routers that routers really get the full capability spectrum as ASUS just guessed what the final spec would be.

If you buy this, you are basically guaranteed the best for what is actually usable now, maybe in a few years when wifi7 is common and ASUS is on second revision upgrade then.
Dammit OP - I did not intend on buying a router today!

Square footage, floors, and obstacles would determine that. Ideally, a single power router is better. However, many homes aren't ideal

Bought this during the October Prime Day (at about $100 more!), definitely meets my single-router needs for reaching most of my home & outside. I do use my previous ASUS router in an AiMesh to the GT-AXE1600 to extend just the 5ghz network in a zone blocked by heavy brick and metal ductwork.

Will probably buy this one and offer it as a return for the initial one I purchased, as that's the only way to get the $100 difference out of Amazon.

I bought one brand new, but ended up not being able to use it for multi-gig internet, due to ISP issues. It works perfect. I'd be willing to sell it someone for $400, if anyone's interested.

EDITED: It's AXE16000, not GT version.

What isp issues? Just required use of their equipment or other things?
They required the customer to buy a router like this one, and claimed to offer multi-gig symmetrical internet, but their upload speed was only 1/10 of their download speed. They are a new ISP in the area, so I went back to xfinity and don't need this router anymore.

Should I go two of these for mesh or something cheaper for the second node?

Which mesh access port expansion would be good with this.

I have a rather old orbibl unit now but was thinking of an asus version as I like their interface better.

Shucks just purchased on Amazon 5 days ago for 500. Router works great, turned my old ac86u into a mesh node easily and have a qnap nas connected via the 10G Ethernet port. Was waiting for ASUSs wifi 7 routers to finally start shipping but Amazon only has the be96u available right now, not the better 98u model.

I have this in my house (2700sqft) with over 50 devices. Works great but 2.4ghz can get a bit congested with too many high bandwidth devices (i.e WiFi cameras). I run an Unraid server with it as well and I like the built in DDNS service.

Fantastic deal on a monster router. I highly recommend for anyone in a large home + new generation devices that use massive amounts of bandwidth. Most people don't qualify, but if you do, enjoy!

I run a 7-node mesh setup with this as the primary router.

I have Eero 6 pro mesh (3 noeds) in 3200 sqft with decent speeds with some deadzones. Will this be an upgrade, especially for gaming ?
