Out of the loop, can someone explain why these red cups are so popular?
It's just a random collectible.

If you get Starbucks once in awhile, the giveaway just becomes a bit of a prompt to get your next one on that day. My wife has every cup going back many years. She gets a Starbucks maybe once a month. This cup doesn't get her to go an additional time, it just becomes when she goes around this time of year.

Similarly, they announce when Pumpkin Spice Lattes are "back" and they get a nice influx, but you can order that whenever you want. If they have the syrup they'll make it for you (and they usually do).

So plain drip coffee doesn't qualify for the cup?

Neah, Starbucks is a no go for me. switched to a super automatic espresso machine and not looking back. It's fresh, customizable, faster and 1/10 of the cost

What company & product model? espresso machine you buy and recommend?

2 espresso shots in a cup at Starbucks cost me $2.95, basically $3.

Sounds like a great way to spread germs.

They don't usually make the drink in your cup, they make it in a regular cup and expect you to transfer it over. So really its just a great way to make the same amount of waste.

I got my red cup! Got a small hot choco with a shot of espresso. Pretty tasty!

Do you get the kids hot chocolate with an add shot. It's what I get if i find myself there when meeting up with someone. it's cheaper than normal hot chocolate with an add shot plus it's not as hot so it's ready to drink sooner.

idk what model OP uses, but I've had success with the De'Longhi Nespresso Vertuo Plus.

https://www.delonghi.com/en-us/ve.../p/ENV155B

Used with this frother:

Ironically, the Starbucks Espresso Vertuo Pods work well:

https://www.amazon.com/Starbucks-...r=1-2&th=1

I typically order a "flat white" at Starbucks, and am able to recreate it pretty much exactly with these two devices and the vertuo pods.

There are likely better, fresher type options out there. This is just my experience. I don't buy starbucks that regularly, so I'm not sure how much "savings" I'm really getting here but it's easy.

My wife orders a drink each year to get the free cup. She does not use these red cups 11 months out of a year. She gets a new cup every year meaning she'll never use it again after Christmas and we have too many stacked up taking up space. We make our own coffee at home because it is cheaper and tastes better. Yes....my wife is crazy stupid....but I would never say this to her face because I am a great husband to her from her perspective....to sum it up: "Women"....Shhhhhh.....please don't cancel me......
I hear this, but when I see people with 6 different versions of the same screwdriver, wrench, and hammer — most of which go unused — should I also say "…men"?

Collecting the cups makes her happy. It's not the worst habit she could have 🤷🏽 ♂️

Hey, don't lump all women in with your wife. I never have and never will get coffee from such an overpriced and overhyped coffee shop, regardless of some 'special' holiday cups they offer once a year.
