Idea: I ordered the RP-280F's from a firm in CA called "Sound Distributors" about two weeks ago. The order was to replace my 280s that were damaged after a lightning strike. I was able to place the order online but received an email within minutes indicating that the 280s (and the RP-450C I ordered) were out of stock and that theyd upgrade me for free to the RP-8000's and a 504C. In other words, 8000's for the price of the 280F's.

Ive thoroughly checked out the differences between the 280Fs and the 8000's and other than very tiny differences in cabinet size, there's no substantive difference between the two models. One reviewer opened up both cabinets and found the same hardware inside. If you can find the 280s in stock they'll be cheaper than the 8000s and theyre essentially the same speaker (the 8000's are a tiny bit smaller).

Amazing speaker. Paired with 2 subs and a 504c or 404c, it is intense to watch a bluray with good audio

Pricewise... I got the RP-8000F in 2021 for $400/speaker here on slickdeals via adorama if you can believe it. I saw this slickdeals alert thought this was expensive and must be the II but its the old one. Not sure about that pricing.

Snagged a pair!! Also bought 504c on Amazon for $369 which I looked around and seems to be a good price as well!

Edit: Now what surround speakers and woofer should I be looking at? Any recommendations?

I upgraded from the monitor 70 that I bought in 2010 to the klipsch 8000f 2 years ago paired with 504c and yes you will hear a major difference, significant improvement in clarity and overall sound. Worth it in my opinion. I have it paired to onkyo 7100

How bad would these be without a center for a 3 person home theater? I am space constrained and could do L R and 2x rear speakers, but no center. Currently use a sound bar set behind the seating which works but isn't great.

The Atmos ones end FA instead of F

I suspect F means floorstanding
A means atmos

FA means floor standing atmos.

Feel free to correct me if this is wrong.

Unless you sit way off center, a phantom center is perfectly fine. Center speakers were invented for one purpose…anchor central sounds to the screen for ppl sitting off to the sides. The horizontal center speaker driver layout is a compromised design because they knew wives and gf's would never allow a vertical speaker under the TV 😂😂 To be honest, a LOT of ppl that were sitting off center wouldn't even notice "off center" audio. You know, the same type of ppl that don't notice the soap opera effect feature on their tv has been on since they set it up. Lol. Just save the sweet spot for yourself. After you live with your phantom center for a while, you'll realize wether you "need" an actual center speaker or not.
