If you have kids or just hate advertisements, these are actually probably the best streaming device on the market because you can add kid profiles to the device which completely eliminates all advertising on the home screen. We keep ours in that mode all the time. You can still install all the normal apps on the kid profile and then just use the apps as usual.

I starting using this a few weeks ago and now get why some people say it's a bit laggy/slow.

Even after reducing the animation time via dev options and uninstalling apps, still a bit slow and clunky.

The cool thing is that you can side load a certain YouTube app that block ads.

onn has no dolby vision / atmos though. It has everything else though.

Grabbed one. Google also emailed me a coupon earlier this week for signing up for email alerts or whatever so the total price came down to $30 after tax

But I remember buying the 4k version for $30 that came with a stupid Stranger Things doll lol

They sent an email with a link showing me previews of the BF deals and then I subscribed to email updates for when the deals would go live so that's why they gave coupon 🤷 ♂️.

This thing is fairly long in the tooth. I sold my laggy Chromecast 4k and going to try a Fire stick 4k max (about the same price).

I wonder if it has to do with the remote. I connected a keyboard to this and it seemed a bit more responsive.

I picked up the onn equivalent from Walmart for $20 and it's awesome. A tad choppy in the UI but otherwise great. I can't imagine this one being any better given how old it is.

Most reviews concur that the onn one is 98% of what you get from this Chromecast.

My Chromecast 4k with Google TV suddenly has a new stutter/judder every 5-10 seconds while watching with the Bally Sports+ app. No other streaming app has this new stutter. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app and it persists. Given how much I watch hockey it has me thinking about dropping the whole platform. It was perfect (in its own laggy way) for a year until this issue. Frustrating.

Onn is way to go for most. I still like Firesticks and Cube, but Amazon is trying to move away from Android platform which will likely impact sideloading of apps. The sideloading is what separates these android devices from the Roku and Apple prison.
