No, they both essentially max out the SATA port. That's the real limitation. With that said, the 870 has a better controller, so....technically faster..? You won't notice a difference.

Edit: Just received them. They both came with the latest *46 firmware, which should prevent random disconnects. I'll be using them in a dual drive Synology box. I know that these aren't the optimal type of drives for this task, but I'm not planning on writing lots of data, so hopefully they'll be fine. I've also read that 870 EVO's haven't been performing that well lately (I have one in a laptop, and it's working fine), so I'm giving these a try instead.
Hard to say. You're talking about the #1 and #2 consumer SATA SSDs. I will say the EVO has a higher TBW limit, but with that said, I think you would have to write something like 92GB of data everyday for 5 years to before you'd reach the MX500 TBW limit.
Both are great SATA drives. You won't go wrong with either.
Edit: Both also have a 5 year warranty.
