QIDI is running a Black Friday Sale that has their X-Smart 3 at $299, use coupon code UP03 for an extra $20 off, bringing your total to $279.

Additionally, at least for my state there was no sales tax required, QIDI is a small enough company that this may be the case for your state as well, but you'll need to check.

At this price, it's seriously worth considering buying over the Bambu Lab A1 Mini. The camera is a separate $40 add-on, and you need to manually set the z-offset, *but* this is a Core-XY printer with an enclosure (that will maintain 50-60C with the doors closed), a nozzle that gets up to 300C, and a bed that gets up to 120C, which means you can print with a lot more useful filaments (think ABS, ASA etc.) that the A1 Mini can't handle due to the 80C max bed temp and lack of an enclosure.

How does it compare to the K1 besides the size difference? I just took a pass on the K1 at $300 because there's just too much negativity surrounding it.

In terms of reliability it's probably better than the K1, I have yet to find a review of the X-Smart where the reviewer wasn't pleased with it overall, and I've not heard of these units having problems (while some of the early X-Plus 3 and X-Max 3 units did, though QIDI pulled those and released refreshed versions of both of those that supposedly fixed their issues)

Aurora Tech's review of the X-Smart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ramCqzIgqw4) is pretty good, skip to 20:50 for the Pros and Cons if you don't want to watch the whole thing, but the main gripes that I would consider fair are the inability to update firmware over the internet (you have to put the firmware on a flash drive and flash off of that), and that you have to manually set the z-offset, so it's not a *fully* automated experience like on some other newer printers.

The main downside over the K1 is going to be that smaller print volume. Manual Z-offset is also a minor gripe, but that's an infrequent and minor chore. If you don't need the extra print volume, the X-Plus is the more appealing unit IMO.

Thanks for your input! I've been researching it extensively because I was hoping to make it a dedicated exotic material machine for small parts, since the bed gets up to 120c, which is very unusual and highly desirable. The manual z-offset is a non-issue for me.

I was pretty close to pulling the trigger when I saw this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwx62NttfdI

It's really long, but I did watch the whole thing. Like you said, QIDI didn't bother to give it the same hardware update as to the other two, so everything is basically plastic including the housing for all the fastening screws and bolts that screw straight into plastic even though they're under severe stresses!

The bottom line is it's a throw-away printer because it's unrepairable. If one of those screws strips, you're done. I mean it is relatively cheap, but I'm also used to being able to replace pretty much everything on a printer so if this thing goes bad after a year of use then it was actually pretty expensive.

QIDI dropped the ball when they initially released all three of those printers, but they made good on the other two. This one here is still a big question mark since there aren't any long-term reviews yet.

I bought the K1 a few weeks back (own a CR-10, 2 FlashForge Creators and 2 ender 3's). Honestly, I am blown away by the K1. Print times are so short I find myself printing a lot more frequently. I haven't had a single failed print, it prints PLA and PETG flawlessly out of the box. Maybe my old gripe is that PETG sticks so well, it peeled the magnetic bed. Anyway, I would buy another one at 350 in a heartbeat.

The biggest downside it has is unique nozzles. Initially that meant there weren't CHT-type nozzles. The volcano nozzle is slightly longer, but slight enough that it'll work, and it has had CHT-type nozzles for a while. Fortunately CHT-type nozzles are available for the Qidi printers. Personally, I'd rather that it used mk8 or volcano nozzles so I could share nozzles with my other printers, but it's not a big deal.

This gives you an enclosure and can handle higher temps, this is the better buy if you're trying to make functional parts. A1 is better if you can handle being limited to basically PLA and PETG.

This would be a great first printer/gift. I have a friend who bought the larger model (his first 3d printer, with no experience) and was up and printing for his Etsy shop in a week. It's been reliable for PLA and PETg. He doesn't have a need for ABS or Nylon, but the specs on this would imply that it's possible to print both. I'll add that this is a pretty small build size just 6.5" on a side, but it also only takes up a 16x16 footprint.

This printer is being greatly overlooked. It is a corexy that is very fast and reliable based on my experiences. Build volume is a little small but does almost everything I want to print. Has an enclosure and will print multiple materials.
