I send my oil to Blackstone Labs to have an analysis done after every oil change. Their experts told me that time is of no worry nowadays with modern oil. The only thing that matters is the mileage.

340k miles on my 03' Toyota Tacoma…my advise: just change the oil no matter what brand (within reason) every 5k or less because it doesn't cost that much to do so…this oil is made by Warren Oil Co btw

My '02 Honda Odyssey is on it's third transmission. After the 2nd transmission failed, we've been changing the transmission oil every 2 to 3 years. Good thing we bought cheap extended warranty coverage so got the both transmissions replaced for free. It's has around 180,000 miles now, is still alive and the third transmission hasn't failed yet!

I don't know why Honda transmissions give out so easily.
I have a mechanic friend who has the 08 Odyssey with the same issues. He said he was reading on one of the forums he subscribes to that the Odyssey has a car tranny and it's woefully too soft to sling around the van plus passengers plus gear (crap). Honda has great engines and decent transmissions. Had they designed it as a truck tranny, it might be better. My Pilot's infotainment system has been as reliable as a Yugo. While not mechanical, the radio pops, yes pops, even when it's off. $50k pile of junk.

I have synthetic oil and also one or two quarts of conventional oil left. They are both 5w30, I believe.

Can I combine them when I change the oil. I just want to use the conventional oil up.

Yes, that is what is called a synthetic blend, commonly sold on store shelves pre-mixed. Many many people do the same over on the BITOG forums. They call it "Frankenbrewing."

They blend different brands, different viscosities, different types of oils (example: diesel oil with gasoline oil in a gas engine), combinations of these, or even all of these.

Another example, I have a large stash of a certain type of oil I bought for cars I no longer own. Now I have multiple viscosities I don't need (5W-30 and 0W-20). My new cars both take 5W-20. So every oil change I use a quart of 0W-20, a quart of 5W-30, and three 5W-20 until it depletes. I end up with a 4W-22 frankenbrew of sorts (although the math does not directly translate, just theroetical).

Some proof to back me up is in ASTM D6922.

Do you have a lawnmower? Perfect way to get rid of the conventional.
