Solid deal on the top-end of Saeco/Philips Super Automatic espresso machines, within $20 of a previous deal. I have an older model, nothing beats having your espresso drinks on demand. If you're spending $5 a coffee at Starbucks daily, your annual spend is basically the cost of this machine. I would recommend buying with a credit card that offers extended warranty - if you still have one of the few Citi cards that automatically adds 2 years to the end of the manufacturer's warranty, that would be best. Sometimes the durability of superautomatics can be hit or miss, especially if you don't follow the maintenance schedule.

Last holiday season, I ended up replacing my 10 year old Saeco machine with the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus. I had strongly considered the Xelsis but the DeLonghi was something like $200-$300 cheaper at Macy's of all places...which allowed me to use a shopping portal that netted me 20K+ airline miles! The DeLonghi is one of the top rated models on that Coffeeness and I'd say it lives up to the hype. It makes great espresso and is far easier to live with from a maintenance perspective. Our 2012 Saeco's maintenance schedule was a monthly ordeal that took a lot of time/attention - not so with the DeLonghi! It only needs descaling about once a quarter and the process is a breeze compared to the 10-year old Saeco (not sure how it compares to the Xelsis).
I just checked and the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is actually $1299 right now at Amazon, that's a pretty good deal (lowest price ever per camelcamelcamel). I think I paid $1300-something last year. I'd always recommend getting one of these superautomatic espresso machines from Amazon, Macy's, Costco, or some other place where returns are free/easy in case the machine doesn't meet your expectations. These machines are complicated and all of the manufacturers will occasionally produce a dud - it's so hard reading Amazon customer reviews because people tend to love or hate the models with not a lot of middle ground. You also get people complaining about broken machines because they committed the cardinal sins of using oily beans or never maintaining/cleaning the machine.
The 5400 lattego goes on sale for $900 regularly. Some older discounts have been steeper but haven't seen anything lower than $900 off late. So that saves a couple of hundred dollars as well.
In terms of coffee taste both machines are essentially similar. I'm pretty sure I'll not be able to tell the difference in taste.
