As for out of warranty one can replace the battery in the iO series themselves. Bunch of videos and an iFixit guide on it.
Haven't used the replacement yet since switching back to my old Sonicare 4100. Still going strong for 4 years.

I would reply to that email and politely tell them that you think there must be some misunderstanding. Let them know that the terms & conditions (https://p192909.pg.prom
In addition, sometimes, these rebate denials are automated and the provided reason is not really the reason for the denial. It's supposed to be a generic wording. So they could be denying your rebate for another reason. For example, are you sure you provided all receipts (Shipping/Delivery Confirmation and packing slip)?
