Been using Quicken since 1997. At one point I had switched to Microsoft Money which I ended up liking a lot. Too bad they discontinued that and back to Quicken I went. This product has not improved in any meaningful way in the last 10 years and in some ways it's worse. It seems more buggy now than it ever has. It takes multiple minutes to download transactions, when it used to be very fast. Occasionally some data corruption will occur and that's when good backups come into play. The fact that it works with all of my financial institutions is what keeps me using it. I'd love to switch to something else but I don't want to store my data in a cloud service.

I don't recommend this product for new users.
Nothing on the page says it's for new subscriptions only so I'm going to bite. I also checked other retailers for the same product number (170457) and none of them mentioned any restrictions.

However, be aware of the following (from Quicken's site):
A membership can only be extended in the last six months of a subscription term. You can extend a subscription term by redeeming an activation code in a retail copy. However, this also can only be done in the last six months of your current subscription term. Therefore, multiple terms cannot be purchased and used at once to extend a membership.

Retail purchases: Activation codes are good for one year after purchase.

I don't see how Quicken would know when you bought your subscription from Newegg. So, if I had more than 6 months remaining on my existing subscription, I'd save my proof of purchase in case I needed Quicken support help with activation.

Why not use Bill Pay (free from most checking accounts) to write checks (did not realize anyone still wrote checks).
Because I pay actors on the spot for my YT channel. None of this 'checks in the mail' stuff.

Strange, when I do a search for past Quicken FP deals, nothing comes up. Did SD delete history?

I had bought like 3 copies a few years back for like $21 each. Timed it so I could renew 6 months before renewal date. The only thing I was concerned about was that the copies key might expired but they were all good.
FYI, I had also got upset when they went to a subscription model but after finding quite a few deficiencies with Tiller, Google Sheetz alternative and then finding out it costs like $59/year to renew, I figure Quicken Deluxe wasn't too bad. With the added revenue, they have been trying to do regular updates.

Hate subscriptions and switched to the Open Source MoneyMangerEx and haven't looked back. It doesn't sync to banks but I manually enter transactions anyhow. So perfect for those of us looking for simple ledger accounting. It works on both Mac and PC and you can cloud sync files using Google Drive or Dropbox if you know how to setup.

You're thinking of Quickbooks, which is now a separate company from Quicken.

I've been using Quicken 2016 deluxe since 2016. I think 2017 was the last version before they became subscription based.

A coder created a script that allows for manually downloading transactions into quicken from my bank so it works as well as the subscription.

For those interested in a non subscription based alternative, I've used moneyspire in the past. Not as good as quicken's interface and I didn't like how it handled checks (perhaps the main feature that quicken has that a lot of others do not) but it is a competent alternative.
What script for download conversion?? That would be slick.

To manually enter transactions you can also just use Quicken 2017. The last version before the subscription model.

Was just going to post the same...

Does anyone know if upgrading a Deluxe install with a Premier code will instantly convert to Premier (given the instant downgrade when doing the reverse)?

I'm guessing they mail a code because sending an electronic code is generally for new installs only--probably part of their licensing deal.

How does this handle investments? I am guessing that it probably can keep track of how much money in each account but I'm not sure if it can analyze your portfolio regarding small cap, large cap, bonds, etc....
Deluxe handles investments fine for me. We have two Roth and regular IRAs and a 403b. It breaks them down and imports all but one of our accounts (the company won't pay Quicken). The account that is not imported still tracks values. I need to enter transactions manually.
It appears to analyze allocations for me. Sometimes it puts the fund in the wrong category. When that happens, I change it manually.

confirmed the digital key WILL extend current subscription. I had 4 months left on mine and was able to enter the emailed key to extend it another year. However, I ordered from Best Buy, it was $35.99 but without coupon, which was worth it to avoid NewEgg.

I'm here b/c I manually enter transactions in Quicken Deluxe 2016, bought a new laptop, and Quicken 2016 won't open after uploading my saved file and the program from my disc. After selecting "Open File" and entering password, Quicken pops up for an instant followed by a blank page asking if having a problem with my Quicken ID.
Common problem, resulting from Quicken going to a subscription model no longer supporting a Quicken ID. Found several posts on the Quicken Community Forum recommending maneuvers from installing patches, manually moving files, installing while disconnected from internet, etc. Hate subscriptions -a couple more recommended fixes I'll try, but looking like I'll be needing this SlickDeal.
Don't know why I posted this story here, just frustration I guess... LOL.

The description on the Best Buy website states that it is for new subscribers: Quicken Classic Deluxe for New Subscribers, 1-Year Subscription - Mac OS, Windows, Android, Apple iOS [Digital] $35.93.
This extended your subscription?

Yes this extended, I was a little hesitant about ordering since it has that language but it worked. Just have to use the Enter your Activation code with the one they send in the email.

I've been using Quicken for >20 years now and seen it go through so many renditions. I certainly agree that this recent subscription model is not desirable for most, compared to its earlier days. But given how many banking institutions are out there, each with their own 3rd party restrictions on data downloads, Quicken is still the best software out there that makes an attempt to integrate as many as they can.

That having been said, every so often there is a big glitch in the downloading for a certain financial institute, and their forums are full of people crying for fixes. But many of them do end up getting fixed, though sometimes it takes months.

This is a good price for a yearly subscription, so I'm biting. I check my finances almost daily, so it's literally $0.09 / day.
