If you are playing games get a 5800X3D. If you're doing productivity work, get a 5900X

I have had one since it first came out. Love this processor. Agreed if gaming is your priority, get the 5800x3d - trades blows with the top processors even in the next generation in terms of gaming.

In my personal use I need a strong gamer as well as a strong worker. I don't feel shorted at all in terms of gaming and i have 24 threads on tap. runs cool and quiet under a 2x140mm radiator.

I have a MINISFORUM Venus Series NAB6 Mini PC, 12th Gen Core i7-12650H. Can I switch this out with this for better productivity proformance? The current setup is 32 ddr4 with 64 ddr5 in the mail.

No; that's an Intel processor, this is an AMD processor - they aren't interchangeable without replacing the motherboard (which on a "non standard" PC is going to be a chore, if it's even possible at all)

This is a pretty nice upgrade for someone already on am4. I wouldn't build around it today though if buying a MB and ram etc.

Same use case and results here, can definitely recommend it!

I have this paired with a 6800XT and 64GB of ram. The extra cores make everything feel snappy even while multitasking. I doubt getting an X3D chip would benefit me at all gaming at 3440x1440.

Depends on the games you play, but even the non-CPU intensive games get better frame times (less stutter) with the 3D cache. The 3D cache generally has more benefits with CPU intensive games, i.e. simulators, strategy, and base/city building.

IMO go with Intel if using Plex. The difference with QuickSync for transcoding is huge.

Noctua NH-U12S with the NA-FK1 secondary fan. Temps hit up to 82C but is still practically silent. I'm sure if I changed the fan profile it'd come on a lot earlier.
