That it costs $1649? Besides the ram, what are you getting for the $250-600 premium?

This is a mid-tier gaming laptop for features and build. GE is MSI's top.

Thanks. Can you get a QHD 17.3" good screen like that paired with a good processor and 4070 anywhere else for less? Even with only 32GB of ram.

In the 4080 and 13900HX territory when you can find these on sale.
Very few people needs 64gb ram if we are honest.

But good config

Why is it only decent 4070?

64 GB is unnecessary for a gaming laptop. At 2k resolution, you probably won't be able to get most games to play at 240hz either, at least for AAA titles with the 4070 at high graphics settings, and many gamers would most likely use an external monitor. 65 WH battery is also kinda low for the power this is going to use. Hard to justify this price when other laptops with the same GPU are available for $1150, or possibly less.

No, but you can get a 4060 and 16GB for $999, and do your own ram upgrade. And it may be cheaper at microcenter tomorrow. https://slickdeals.net/f/17083585-999-99-acer-nitro-17-laptop-2560x1440p-165hz-ryzen-7-7840hs-16gb-1tb-ssd-rtx-4060?v=1&src=SiteSearch

17 or 18 inch screens are scarce for some reason. I mean... Lenovo doesn't even do them for gaming anymore.

So compared to the Nitro 17, I'd say pretty comparable quality. $150 for the 4070, $150 for the ram still leaves a $350 gap.

Complete newb here. I usually see complaints about the RAM being too low in these listings. Why is it bad for it to be too high in this one?

Laptop gpus are significantly cut down from the desktop versions and have a fraction of the power. Nvidia in particular really cuts things back. AMD and Intel far less so, but also still lag behind.

In the laptop gpu area, they also have different power levels which can translate to better performance. EG, a 175w version and a 135w version.

I didn't check the gpu hierarchy, but this probably runs more like a desktop 4060 or less.

Why would you pay $1650 for an rtx 4070 when you can get the hp omen with rtx 4080 for 60% performance gain for the same price? It even has an HX processor with two more performance cores. 4070 on a 17" laptop is laughably bad. They have them in 14" thin and light laptops for a reason. And 8GB is not good for a QHD screen.
