Amazon charges you tax.

But buying from within the console charges NO tax, because every Nintendo Switch sold is coincidentally being used in an Oregon zip code. Zero exceptions. It's a geological wonder.

Not to mention various ways to get cheaper eShop credit that can be used...

PSA - if let membership lapse over 6 months Nintendo will wipe away all your cloud data. I took a break from gaming then return to find out this. All my smash bro unlocks … gone. BOTW with fully collected yahaha's… gone.

My own fault for not checking the terms but I just assumed once I pay again they'd recover my saves but no it's actually wiped from their servers. Just so people are aware.

This is the biggest factor preventing me from picking up a switch again.

Made the mistake of buying this while I have 1.5 years of Family + Expansion. I figured it would prorate the 12 months and apply the appropriate amount if time to my existing subscription, it will not. You can only use this if you are not currently subbed, or are subbed to Family and not the expansion.

With that said - if someone wants to buy a 12 month family code from me, I will sell it for $25 (Venmo or PayPal - friends/family).
Wait till it expires. You won't lose cloud saves once it lapses for the first 6 months. Redeem it, then convert it to expansion.

You should have saved everything locally too.. I was under the impression it was on by default

Agreed and why I stopped using it and save it all physically. Eventually it made it hard for me to keep paying for it out of frustration knowing Nintendo does that.

It is, in fact, the default. The way cloud saves work is by uploading local saves. You need to intentionally and manually wipe local saves off all your consoles, then leave your cloud saves dormant for half a year, for this to be a problem.
