Not a good deal… normal deal for Yubikey should be 2 keys for around $45-50…… that's equal to 50% off or B1G1 free……

TONS of 2fa keys/dongles as well as cell phone 2fa generators

https://www.dongleauth.com/dongles/
https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/be...022/43261/

Keep in mind. You lose the 2fa dongle or phone without having a backup way to get into your accounts = you're totally screwed.

So most people buy 2+ dongles and store 1 offsite.

Or backup their phones and 2fa app completely.

lol Google is one of the many reasons that information needs to be secured. They are already too invasive.

So you use you yubikey to unlock Bitwarden and then use Bitwarden to fill in the password in the browser for you? Ideally I'd like to use the yubikey to avoid 2fa, even if Bitwarden fills in the pass for me I might need to type a code sent to my email or use a phone app
I use my Yubikey to use FIDO to gain access to the BitWarden account, then I use the Yubikey to enter the vault password. Obviously not secure if some secret agent targeted me IRL, but SUPER convenient. BitWarden then does the filling in for passwords and such.

So yes, this provides me 2FA (yubikey + password). I'm trying to move everything to my Yubikeys. Probably going to get a total of 4 TBH.

They're like pringles once you pop you just can't stop.

I have six or seven, lost count, but I HATE the 5C nano and don't use it anymore.

Kicking myself for not taking advantage of the 2022 Cloudflare Yubikey special Frown
Don't kick yourself too hard. I eventually got the Cloudflare deal to work but it consumed so much of my time that I seriously questioned whether it was actually worth it. 🤔

I attach an Apple Airtag to each one on a key chain.

Yubikey works to protect Apple accounts as well via Apple Security keys. It's not either or, it works in tandem.

So assuming you are using iCloud for practically everything like most people are, across multiple devices, including passwords, then the value of protecting your Apple account skyrockets.

Ask anyone who has had their Apple account hacked if they could pay $100 to get it back if they could (the cost of two yubikeys) most will say yes.
My apple account is fully encrypted. Only a device can get the keys. You could compromise my account and gain nothing.

Apple devices have the option to be encrypted. And then you have the option to encrypt your iCloud. Only my devices can unlock the iCloud. They all require biometrics. If I lost my devices then I have a 20 digit key to unlock.

Meaning, you can secure everything to the point where the baddies must come get you to get in to your accounts, but I don't think they'd mind breaking into your home and taking your phone and finger if they truly wanted in.
FWIW: US courts have ruled that police forcibly taking your finger and unlocking your phone/devices via biometrics like that is not a breach of the 4th Amendment.

So IMO never use biometrics if you want your info to be truly safe from ALL baddies. Password + hardware key 2FA seems still like the most secure option all around. Even SMS is hackable via SIM swapping.

I've never seen 2 keys for $50 as a "normal" deal. Can you share some of those deals?

They ran similar sales almost once or twice every year in the past few years……

With passkeys gaining support, I am seeing less and less reason for these keys, and even less places that support them.

Yubikey 5c has more features than ordinary FIDO2 keys, one of the features is PIV which serve as a more traditional way of logining to numerous of machines.
I also use FIDO2 based biometric solutions however I don't find it as widely supported as PIV.

You can use Yubikey as passkey.
An air-gapped device is always safer.

I may be out of the loop but didn't WIRED magazine give these out free a few years ago?

Why are they $43 now?

how can a piece of plastic be worth so much

That is Yubikey 4 and it doesn't support FIDO2.
That one is USB-A.

Got a bunch of them and will pass this time around
They are great and robust, but unfortunately I only find them useful on the psw manager
Very limited financial institution support

I remember that deal. I spent several hours trying to figure out how to make it work, refreshed a ton, etc. I thought I did everything correctly. I never got one. Definitely wasn't worth it for me.
