What's the consensus on this vs the BestBuy Victus at $550? Same 6GB 4050, CPU slightly better, DDR5, 350 nits vs 250. Seems like a pretty good future proofing from the Victus but I'd like to hear other opinions.

Not sure what specs you're seeing and comparing but the Victus does not have the RTX 4050; this has DDR5 and not the Victus, so not exactly sure how Victus is future proof.
For $50 more this LOQ is better than the Victus in almost every way, except for the battery which is slightly bigger on the Victus (70 vs 60 Whr) and mainly the processor. However, the Ryzen in this would run cooler and provide similar (if not more) battery times as Victus despite the latter having a bigger battery.
I personally would pick this because I value the display more and CPU would more or less be comparable in real life.
Positive side note that at least this has this year's Ryzen chip and not the Zen 3 refresh.

Wrote it on the fly. 4050 was a mistype and I misphrased. It seems like this would be better future proofing than the Victus.
You convinced me to pay the $50+tax instead of the Victus from BB or MC. The second SSD slot sold me. It comes with a mini version but can fit the longer PCIE version as well.
I bought the Crucial P5 Plus 2TB M2 for the longer slot and a second 8GB Crucial stick of RAM to match what's in there. All told about $720+tax.
I think it's overkill for the $470 I was going to spend on the Walmart RTX 3050 special but hopefully it lasts a long time as my Steam machine.
