I have a $180 Japanese blue steel knife I bought in Kyoto from Yoshimune that I use for most things. I bought these as a quality low cost upgrade to my cheap knife set. Yeah made in China, but I have to imagine that with the Henckels name on it, it is a better quality German steel that it says it is and is manufactured better. Even the listing on the Zwilling US site (which owns Henckels) that lists it for $170 admits it is made in China. So, I am not worried about getting the same $310 quality of the 5 knives for $82. Just glad to be getting a much better set for under $100 for everything I don't use my Japanese knife on.

Thanks for this post. If I could have figured out how to link up my post many years ago about buying a pink chef knife for my daughter when she was 6 or 8 or something, I would of. She's now 18 and going to pick this set up for her this Christmas! She was just making a comment about how she needs a new knife and not that stupid one you bought me. She loved it... ;o) I'm sure she will this as well. My wife bought me a Henkle set when we were just engaged on valentines day... that's about 30 years ago, and still my set in the kitchen... and we've chef'd the poop outta of those knife. still awesome and keep a fine blade.
