Halo Reach is a mind-blowingly good game Smilie I recommend Halo Infinite too.

Runs fantastic on the Steam Deck. Didn't last summer but they completely updated the game, launcher, controls, etc. Before that it seemed like a sloppy port. Different games control settings actually conflicted with others. Like, I'm not playing Halo 1 right now, why do you care if this binding conflicts with Reach???? Beyond stupid because controllers have a limited number of buttons. They completely fixed that so controllers work out of the box, each game seems to have bindings that are limited to that game.

And yes, I'm going to say it....I think the Halo games have aged very poorly. They still look amazing but the gameplay is nothing more than shoot everything that moves then go to the next waypoint then shoot everything that moves. I think a lot of Halo's (current) allure is the nostalgia.

But if you still love Halo this is an absurdly good value. Six full AAA games for $10 is a no brainer.

I actually played Halo 1 just this week. Finished it yesterday. I've never played Halo games before, and this was my first experience with one. I don't play first person shooters generally (only other FPS games I've ever played are the Bioshock series). The game was exactly as you describe it — shoot everything that moves till you reach the next checkpoint. Just rinse and repeat. But speaking as a person who rarely plays first person shooters I quite enjoyed it. It was just mindless shooting; and since you are shooting aliens it has an arcade feel to it, which actually appealed to me. I can see Halo being the perfect gateway game for someone who doesn't generally play FPS games.

I have fond memories of playing the original Halo at 4-Xbox LAN parties in high school. Thought this would be a nice nostalgia trip. But, you must create a Microsoft account to play even single player. After a dozen attempts to answer the insane CAPTCHA requirements*, MS blocked me from creating an account for trying too many times. So I got a refund from Steam instead.

*CAPTCHA requirements: Get shown 2 ~100x100 pixel images. One has a picture of a hand pointing somewhere. The other has a picture of an animal and you have to pick from 20 rotation orientations to make the animal align with the hand. Do this 10 times without any mistakes. If you make a mistake it makes you do another set of 10.
