Amazon has listed the Penn Spinfisher VI Spinning Reel at a Black Friday Discount most likely because of the new Penn VII spinning reels. This is a very good price/product ratio for the spinning reel. It is technically IPX-5 rated but IPX-6 because it isn't the Live Liner version which has more parts that are impossible to seal for an IPX-6 rating.

These are exceptionally good prices, especially for the 8500 Reel, it is a definite overkill for most anglers but for the ones who do end-of-pier fishing or deepwater then it will suit you. I believe if you buy it for surf fishing it would be just uncomfortable to cast but that is just a personal opinion.

For a standard 7' medium rod for inshore saltwater fishing, it wouldn't be my choice.
I bought the 4500 Sinfisher V combo back in 2018 for $84.50. It came on a medium rod, but it was a very strange medium rod. The backbone on the rod is like a heavy, and the tip is like a medium to still cast a lighter lure well. Very odd rod, but it's perfectly paired to the heavier duty nature of these reels.
