For most of the major cities, I have traveled to, clear has been worthless. It's not as automated as it should be, so you still need a live person to help or escort you, so in the end the wait is just as long compared to to having tsa pre-check/global entry. For the money, having pre-check is a much better time saver. I get Clear for free through my united status and never use it anymore.
CLEAR is a joke. Pay to stand in a line that takes just as long as a regular TSA line. No Thanks.
Frequent traveler here. This program has become over saturated with the number of people using it. If you have TSA pre-check already, this no longer saves you time at most airports. Between having to wait for an available machine, to scanning boarding pass, to the Clear ambassador escort, to the "random" ID checks I get 70% of the time, it has been more stressful using CLEAR than going through normal TSA Pre-check.

Many TSA lines have the ID-scanning machines now, eliminating the need for presenting a boarding pass. All I have to do is present my ID to the TSA agent and go. No need for the Iris or fingerprint scan, and especially those unnecessary "random" ID checks!!

Clear will put you at the front [nerdwallet.com] (not always!) of the PreCheck line assuming you have PreCheck/GE/Nexus/whatever. Whether or not the PreCheck like is long depends on your airport, time of day, etc.

In ATL Clear has saved me some considerable time. My home airport not so much as I always take the first flight out in the morning, and sometimes beat TSA to the airport! LMAO

Edit: Added note that Clear won't always place you at the front of the PreCheck line. Seems to depend on the airport and their Clear setup.

What airports have you had this experience in? I wish more airports I used had clear, breeze through like nothing with clear at Ewr, Las, Mia. I'm waiting for them to pop up at my local airport
LIke ATL and LAX. Half the year i travel multiple times a week and it's always the same: not enough attendants, not enough kiosks. A lot of the time there is no marked spot to stand in line. Attendants are just there chilling. They got in trouble so sometimes you have to show ID to TSA. When I registered the guy didn't want to register my fingers, only eyes. Half the time I just don;t bother with Clear, just go straight to Pre-Check. I can't wait till all airports have facial recognition and Pre like what Delta does.

Same. Kinda useless. The UA fanbois always claim to love the benefit, but more than half the time the Standard Precheck Queue is faster than the Clear/Precheck Queue.

Not always! Often Clear has its own precheck line (MCO for example) and in those cases the normal Precheck line is often faster than the Clear Precheck Line. Sometimes I just leave the Clear line and go to the normal line to save time.

Does anyone know whether to complete the enrollment I have to go in person for scans? Or is the online portion alone enough to trigger the $75 Uber?

You don't get CLEAR "instead"- You get CLEAR in addition to (and it's more a nice to have, rather than the REALLY nice to have of precheck).

You get to skip to the front of the precheck line after hitting their kiosk for ID

The other, arguably larger but less common, benefit is for places where precheck is closed, you STILL get to skip to the front of the line.

If you could only have one, GE is WAY better.... but there's no reason you can't have both, essentially free with credit card credits, and as others have noted sometimes it's not significantly better to use CLEAR, other times it's a big time saver.

Registration for CLEAR with facial recognition

Starting Nov. 30, Clear will begin verifying Plus users in preparation for Clear's NextGen Identity+ technology to enable face as the primary biometric for membership identification, a Clear spokesperson confirmed to TPG.

Clear CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker announced earlier this month that Clear Plus users and verified members will be able to identify themselves via their face, eliminating the need to provide additional biometrics or stop at a Clear Pod before being escorted to the Transportation Security Administration lane.

TSA PreCheck lines are usually faster than Clear.
...but Clear is faster than standard screening.

I signed up for Clear at MCO when the line was a mile long. My precheck was expired at the time. It was great while I was waiting to renew TSA precheck.

With precheck, there have been very few occasions where Clear is any faster. Maybe 2-3 times through 50 flights in the last year. Typically I'm at the agent faster than passengers going through Clear at the same time.

If, for whatever reason, you don't want to register your fingerprints with the government for precheck, Clear might be a good option to expedite screening.

I only got Clear because it was free, from Amex Platinum IIRC. The 'VIP' treatment was nice as I breezed thru security. But it wasn't really needed as I fly early in the morning or late in the evening so there's not much crowd.
Global Entry on the other hand is a must-have. ORD is a nightmare. If you don't have one, prepare to stand in line for 2-3 hours when it's busy laugh out loud

95% I get a "random" ID check. I stopped using Clear. They also harassed my kids when we were all together. They don't have IDs and only need to tell you I am their dad once. Worthless

Just signed up online. Do I still need to go in person to be able to claim the UE voucher?

Last time few weeks back I signed up with similar offer. I got the voucher without completing the airport registration part. Just paying online and using the offer triggered the 75 uber voucher. It will just randomly come in Email.

Agree, I would never pay for Clear. Also Digital ID is a thing and so are these new TSA facial recognition scanners I saw at ATL.

Clear shouldn't exist. The idea that you can pay money simply to cut the line is absurd. It's also a terrible idea in that the more customers you have, the worse the service actually is.

Now that so many people have Clear, I love going to an airport and seeing people with Clear have to wait.

Pre-check on the other hand actually serves a good by speeding up security and the more people who get it, the better.
