That resolution to size ratio doesn't seem too good, typically see 3440x1440 for 34" ultrawides

Why so many monitors have such big bezels? I mean, physically, why?
I could justify large bottom bezel to accommodate control buttons (even then, they could be faced down or sideways), but all around...I don't get it.

That's because this is a 16:9 monitor. 2560:1440 isn't an ultrawide res. Still really bad pixel density.
