Good deal overall? Planning on getting a drone for my father in law for Christmas. He's never had one.

It's pretty good if you have the coupon. I know a lot of people will say get the pro, but to include the fly more combo and the RC remote for $560 isn't a bad deal. If it's for him to start. I'd get DJI Care just in case though being his first drone.

the main difference in this and the mini 3 pro is that the mini 3 pro has some collision detection (not a full sphere for the sensor coverage but pretty good coverage IMO) and it also has the automated video shooting modes where you just hit a button and it does the shooting for you. the mini 3 pro also has active track, so it can track a moving object.

The mini 3 has none of these. If you want more features, and don't want to crash your drone go M3P.

If you want a budget drone and are experienced with manual maneuvers to get the shots you want and know how not to crash your DJI... I'd say go with the mini 3

for example I have one to supplement my air 3 which i fly 9/10 times
