This is a perfect advanced entry-level camera for the price. At a take home price of about $250 ... with the included Canon certification and warranty, it's worth it.

Considering that on ebay the sl1's is still selling for about 170is and the T6i's are at 450 for 8+ year old tech... This has way newer technology and will be a better near-term investment.

For reference, I've owned the SL1, T6i, and R7 ( aps-c cameras).

This is actually incorrect. Think you might mistaken the t7i which is a better camera than the t6i with Dual pixel tech. The t7 is a slight worst camera to the t6i you reference.

Think of it as a t6i with a few less features.

Still a decent slr beginner camera.

I bought sony A serious refurbs about 15 years ago and used them for at least 5+ years later.. I used old (cheap) fast, made in japan lenses from pentax I think? (i got them on ebay for below $60) , comparable lens now with AF would cost $400...

so, ya, I agree, this is an easy gift for a kid, etc, who wants to learn and will offer a lot of camera for the $

i never understood canon labeling this T7 so close to the T7i label. it would be better to have to labels that are different for the basic DSLR camera. any ideas what canon is up to? thanks.

The t7 isn't much better than my t3i.

Canon releasing new iterations really destroyed the resale market without really offering much improvement.

Anyone know if there is a limited Warranty on this Camera and for how long?

Also does the Holiday extended return policy apply to this one?

Don't expect to be able to use this for anything low-light or at night. $299 is about all this is worth.

Basically look up the T6 review and that's what you'll get - a nice 2K 24MP DSLR that works with legions of EF lenses.

Good for still photography, locked down videography (or on a gimbal moving).

Autofocus is nowhere near that of modern smartphones or Sony A7 series, so this isn't the type of camera you'll run (not jog) with while recording video without a gimbal or steadycam + locked focus or focus puller.

Tons of short films have won awards made on these T-series, so nothing wrong with them for film school.

AF is sufficient for the majority of home photography uses.

Kit lens is slow, so first upgrade for lower light (dusk to lower lighting without flash) is a faster prime lens eg 35mm or 50mm f/1.8 if you don't want to use a tripod with a low iso setting for higher image quality. (Or use a high iso without a tripod for lower image quality.)

With a tripod, you can go shoot stars at night even.

Kit lens is fine for daylight and night with a flash. Flash means wedding perfect images. https://www.pabstphoto.com/shooti...otography/

$229 is a very good price, and haven't seen Canon drop this low often.

40mm 2.8 pancake lens. It's affordable, compact and versatile lens for traveling and would definitely good enough for close up photos of your newborn.

Congrats! Any camera will do fine... IF you know how to use it. The camera won't be the limiting factor. YouTube is your friend, fellow parent. Sounds like you're new to the game, so I'd suggest watching some channels to get some photography knowledge between feedings and diapers and all the new things. I'd suggest:

The Slanted Lens : Portrait Photography [youtube.com]

That's a good place to start!
