While this may have been true 10+ years ago, there are more recent side-by-side comparisons/reviews that show differently.

Norton is much more lightweight than it used to be and is actually just as efficient (if not more) than other top AV software.
Windows defender is more than sufficient.

I just renewed it recently. Does anyone know if I can stack this for next year's renewal?

I've bought these several times the last few years and just chatted with the Norton support agent to get the subscription added on my existing expiration date. Smilie

There VIRUS protection doesn't add any value. May be its worth for the VPN .

these deals for norton come up about every 2-3 months. i waited until my subscription was 2-months from expiring last year and then bought a similar $15/$20 deal.

there is so much competition in antivirus that I highly doubt this trend will change anytime in the next couple of years.

Norton severely slows down your machine. Just use ad block and your pc/mac's built in OS antivirus software.
Will be fine for the majority of people and free.

For reference with others looking to stack, IIRC support is able to stack up to 4 years on any subscription.

I feel the same. Windows defender is sufficient. Even edge and chrome has built in security malicious sites. I bought a laptop that came with 1 year free subscription of McAfee, I uninstalled it the moment I setup my machine

Past 2 real world tests listed, Norton performs better than the default Microsoft AV.

Latest av test - parity.

Yep. Bye bye mcafee!

See my post above to av test sites.
MS is generally above the 99% detection rate nowadays, so norton is merely 0.3% better in recent tests.

Now, what kind of sites and mail hygine is in place?

Obviously, if you're the hacker kiddy with X-rated and Dark Web deep dives, you're not only going to need Kaspersky etc. but probably even full virtual machine isolation.

But the typical YouTube, Gmail, Nice sites users WITH Microsoft Edge + Ublock Origin Ad block extension, settings for Browser Safety on and Set to Strict, bad URL avoiding on, etc, well, Microsoft Win11 AV typically is more than sufficient.

...

Keep in mind NO AV software in existence catches 100% of viruses!!!

Like the latest version of Covid or Flu, there's always the latest variants that'll get thru.

This is why you peeps NEED A BACKUP system in place to protect your data when infection occurs.

Infection?

No fooling around seeing if AV might remove 100% of a virus. Just fully nuke the system clean, restore in minutes from backup and fresh, clean system again.

Just a heads up if you do purchase the Norton.. remove the credit card info they will demand from you in order to make the product work... it's actually pretty easy you just go into the norton account they'll have you create (or log into the existing norton account you might already have), turn off auto renew and delete the credit card info, pay careful attention to the prompts on the bottom I recall them highlighting the "don't cancel " type prompts in yellow to try to get the unwary clicker to select it by mistake Stick Out Tongue .. I've done this repeatedly with my Norton purchases without any problems and Norton still works.

If you don't do this Norton can and will charge you some horribly large amount when your subscription requires automatically and without your approval .. I've heard horror stories about how Norton will refuse to back down and won't reverse the charges so definitely remove that credit card info !
