Canyon Endurance 8 is $1500 right now with identical groupset. I'd sooner pay a $300 premium for an aluminum bike from Canyon that clocks in at 9.22 kg. Canyon always runs free shipping promo's, and you can get a free ship coupon from their showroom if you live in the area.

As someone who rides a rando Taiwanese frame (Fuji) with an Ultegra groupset...buy a legit frame. I'd sooner have a reputable aluminum frame with 105 (or Tiagra) and get nice wheels, especially now that everyone sands weld so they're visually very similar to carbon frames.

The headache of dealing with random bottom brackets, not being able to find specs, random aftermarket plastic bits to make stuff work, 0 customer support down the line or stocked parts is not worth it. If you're not ready to drop $2k on a carbon frame don't try to cheap out, you don't get the best of both worlds; at least direct-to-consumer companies like Canyon offer pretty solid prices.

Be careful*, the spec list says shimano 105 but the list for the bike on the same page shows 2x8 shimano Claris as the components. I wonder if it's a typo

Disc brake is for anyone. It's just that it requires a bit more cost for maintenance/repair. In fact, I would recommend disc brakes for beginners because it offers better braking, if you don't mind the extra cost. Also, disc brake version of the same model tends to be more expensive due to extra parts needed.

Is this considered an endurance bike? I see the description mentions relaxed geometry. Is this similar to a Giant Defy? I have an older one of those and really enjoy the geometry of that bike.

I got the 22 or 23 version of this bike when prices skyrocketed. Saved me approx. 800-900 back then. I'm happy with my polygon, nothing to complain, and to me it was worth taking the risk. It's all 105 components. If you want peace of Mind, pay more and get an equivalent bike that may just be more known and has more support available.

And that is a very bad recommendation.

I can't speak to this specific model or Polygon as a brand, but I figured it might be worth echoing others that the hydraulic 105 groupset is a revelation. I've had multiple bikes with Tiagra components, but finally upgraded to a 105 model a couple months ago, and the difference is huge. Worth every penny.

I know a couple people who prefer cantilevers because they're far easier to work on/adjust yourself. But that's the only reason I know to prefer them.

Disc brakes have better and more consistent stopping capabilities (especially in wet weather and muddy terrain), which is all I personally care about. I got rid of my last cantilever model a couple months ago, so now all three are disc. Brake adjustment is part of the tune-up I have done by a bike shop any time I get a new bike, and I don't have a reason to remove my tires, so all three of mine have stayed true (Trek FX-3 for 3+ years).

I recommend disc brakes for everyone if it's financially feasible.

It's 105. I own the 2023 model and it rides very much like the Trek Domane. But the fit was a little off for me. I ended up selling mine after 3 rides. But it's a great bike for the price. When my bike arrived every bolt was overtightened. It was a bear to remove so I can apply proper grease.

Only the comparison part says Claris.

The Components pull down list still lists 105. The same as OPs post. But it is worth taking screenshots just in case it doesn't arrive correctly.

Only L and up available for Canyon tho...
Have to check back often with Canyon, they're constantly in a stock flux b/c they're doing incredibly well in the US.

I was checking couple time a week over a month period on the Grand Canyon 5 when they dropped it to $500. It was only in L and XL in the blue and later an entire size run of red got released; since then the blue has restocked a few more times with a handful of other sizes. It's clear they move product well in the US and have trouble keeping stock -- swap over the the German website and you can see the US branch has probably 20% of the bike models & accessories the EU gets. I'm hopeful the US branch starts getting more

Just smart braking tactics. You can still filp over off a rim brake-bike if you slam the front hard enough.

terrible comment. disc brakes offer far superior performance. i would guess the poster has never had a good set of disc brakes on a bike.

i have not tried them personally but the shimano hydraulics have a very good reputation.

i wouldn't buy a bike without disc brakes. Peace

I've had my Canyon Grizl 6 (alloy frame) for around a year now and have not regretted it. Done races with 5000 feet of climbing and 125 mile flat tow path rides - can do just about anything. You can get it for $1399 (w/ free shipping) now on their website. If you are not in a hurry, I would just monitor their stock and even their Outlet section for this bike because I have seen it in the 1100 - 1200 range from time to time.

If you can afford it, I would also look at the Grizl CF SL 6 - basically the carbon version of the one above. It is $1799, but lighter and probably a more comfortable ride given carbon frame absorbing vibrations slightly better than alloy.

I am 6'4, 215 and got size XL. Their sizing calculator is pretty close from what I have read and the XL definitely fits me well.
Thank you!

New to bikes. Any reason to get this over a Decathlon RC520?
