Yes, this is a great model to get into a Vitamix and getting it reconditioned direct is a great savings. It's not the top of the line but has some of the new features that the new ones have. There are so many, almost every blender. Not sure why they are not showing up here but you can save 40%, and get free gifts.

the low profile one still wont' fit under my moms cupboards, so I think I'm going to go for the 5200 with the tall container since none of them fit with the container on. Any reason I should seek out a different model? Not seeing any major perks elsewhere and the tall container seems to perform the best for most things

The 5200 is a solid machine. It gets the job done without the extra bells and whistles. It is a little louder than newer models, but not by much. The tall container performs best for smaller blends. If you're looking to do more "chopping" or large batch blending, that is where the low-profile comes in handy. There are a few really good comparison sites out there to help narrow it down.

While all the models are loud because they are so powerful, the 5300 is known as one of the loudest. All the motors are essentially the same, the difference is in the housing, the base around the motor) and how it is made. They sell multiple series designs to appeal to a larger audience and to offer different price points.

so the c and g series doesn't have much difference motor wise?

from reviews it seems like G series is the way to go, and C series doesn't really make sense anymore.
