And no, I don't have Stockholm syndrome. I've seen half a dozen friends and family land six figure jobs immediately after adding these three letters to their résumé.
However, the recertification process every three years is a scam and nothing more than a money grab. Alas..

Checkout with just exam is $402.50
Checkout with exam and membership is $432.50. (Membership offers you a cheaper renewal for your certification as well as cheaper retest if you fail.)
Also PMI study hall practice tests for the PMP are on sale as well!
Edit: came out to $283.50 if you have a membership already.
What industry cares about this basic certification?
Thanks!

It's a challenging, time consuming test. Arguably more valuable than the average MBA. Having one essentially sets your minimum salary to 100k (as a project manager).

And double lmao for comparing them to an MBA, I guess maybe an online MBA from a Caribbean university that doesn't actually exist.
Many years ago, it was either the only certificate or one of a handful PMI offered. There was no Agile, no Scrum. Now there are so many different options and so many people with the credential that it doesn't seem worth as much. I would say it tend to worth nothing. I also wonder if people value this certification as much in tech as they did ten years ago?

And you're 100% right, there are killer PMs with zero certs and garbage PMs with alphabet soup in their name. If I had to take a blind stab in fielding candidates, I'd go for a PMP PM vs not; All things being equal.
Fortunately the cert hasn't been diluted into oblivion like six sigma.
