This is far from a "basic certification". While not an easy exam/cert to obtain, it is one of the more direct entires to a six figure job.

And no, I don't have Stockholm syndrome. I've seen half a dozen friends and family land six figure jobs immediately after adding these three letters to their résumé.

However, the recertification process every three years is a scam and nothing more than a money grab. Alas..

A simple indeed search tells you otherwise. Sorry you couldn't pass your PMP

While these roles are diminished, the skill set demand still exists. The ability to lead an execution team while managing budget, resources, timelines and risks is still a thing.

You can get a student membership for $32 a year with a edu email, it requires log in verification but it worked for my old edu account, that will drop the exam to 402, then this coupon stacks for $283 total cost

Meh, I already have a 6 figure job. Just wondering if it would help increase my bottom line. In short, I am a marine surveyor, and the majority of my work is investigating boat insurance claims for insurance companies, and then reviewing repair estimates to see if they are fair and reasonable or not.

A lot of my claims run well over 500K in terms of repair costs. Just wondering if having a PMP would be attractive to the insurance companies, as maybe I could start to offer project management services on these huge claims. I already know how to project manage, just curious if the certification would be beneficial and allow me to charge more for my services. In the grand scheme of things this certification is relatively cheap. .

PMs, Scrum Masters, Product Owners are getting laid off left and right nowadays. The hype already died out of these BS jobs. Get a real skill. Soft skills can only take you so far.
Which PM hurt you? Also, no one told the recruiters about these layoffs, maybe it's just you.

It would add value for prospective clients inquiring about your services.

Lmaio getting a PMP as an adult is like getting your drivers' license again. Nobody's paying you $100k just for having either of them.
And double lmao for comparing them to an MBA, I guess maybe an online MBA from a Caribbean university that doesn't actually exist.
MBA are given out like candy, or a prize like a Cracker Jack box. It's no longer the gold standard. Everyone has one regardless where you got it. No one cares lol

Bingo. Another fad job that is disappearing. The turnover for these positions is astronomical because companies have found out it's a worthless position. These people do nothing but make projects worse in every way. The person at Walmart who watches the self check out lines adds more value. The only people who get this certificate are GED high school dropouts trying to play corporate. Other than that, it's such a wonderful career choice.
Depends on the industry. In consulting, you need to do, MANAGE and sell the work. Having this certification (just like college degrees and professional licenses) just proves you are a competent person that is able to learn new things. As George Carlin once said, "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." Having certs means you're most likely on the "good side" of average.

PM role disappearing is news to me. I feel it's more that a lot of the principles of traditional and agile project management have been integrated across business functions and somewhat automated within products. There are businesses that can try to operate without it, but good PMs/PMOs can help improve outcomes and reliability.

As far as PMP goes, it's good for putting you in competition with other PMs, and still a preferred criteria to those hiring for the role. I think it's useful to have both a PMP and other Agile certification in combination. I have my PMI-PMP and PMI-ACP, and feel it was useful to prove understanding the concepts for when I was switching jobs to show it could translate to other organizations.

Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living and how do those certifications help you?

Seen many shitty, self-claimed expert project managers holding PMP certs, I actually want to see what this exam looks like...

Eh, I see all the naysayers but know this holds weight with recruiters and hiring managers. Even the job title of Project Manager can command a hefty salary. I would imagine with that number being minimum $109k 6-7 years ago it is beyond that now.

I am a PM and have my PMP. I was one of the few at my company that actually went through the time and expense to get it. My advice to coworkers and everyone else was don't get it unless you were actively looking to go to a new company. The upkeep and cost to renew is a pain and money grab IMO. My previous company didn't care I had it but recruiters seem to look for it. I recently changed companies now making 45% more.
