Agree. There's no way this isn't some kind of experience where you pay $8 to get inundated with solicitation for HVAC services for the rest of your life plus the inevitable replacement bill (with convenient financing)

After my 1st contract cleaning of my ac, the fan went out. I always wondered if these guys create their own work by planting a Trojan horse.

What exactly do you get for $8. if they know up front they are only getting paid $8, I can't imagine them doing much. An AC/Heat pump tune-up is probably worth it if they are cleaning the outside coils. I doubt they are cleaning the outside coils if you have gas.

What does a tune entail? Is it just an inspection? Will they check the refrigerant charge? Tune charge by reading superheat?

It will depend heavily on the provider for the zip code you reside in. Some are far better than others. The tune-up, depending on provider, is generally a full system inspection, typically 20-30 points. The provider in my area will guarantee the unit for 6 months as long as you address any issues that are found. They should be crawling in attics, looking at ducting, electrical, pressure, and the units themselves.

Do anyone really think they will get a real service for $8? It's like the scam duct cleaning sales too. They always find problems or create some for you. Just do it yourself or hire people and pay proper money. Home Depot does not have their own crew. They sub out so there is no big corp sale that you are taking advantage of

My thoughts exactly. My father-in-law got a $29 tune up recently and was told his 5 year old furnace needed to be replaced.
