Two more days until its been 18 months for me.

I have been surviving on Costco Shop/gift cards and shopping at Costco as a non-member. I've got it down to a science now:

When it's just about your turn to check out, you just directly request the cashier to get a manager with the following reason: "I want to use a Costco gift/shop card as a non-member". This direct request shortens the amount of time they feign about not being able to check you out as a non-member.

I have a printout of this page [costco.com]. Click the second FAQ item, print it & take a highlighter to the 2nd to last sentence if they play dumb.

Are you a Costco employee? Every time I try to check out, someone tries to sell me this. And every time, I try to stop them before they start, but they never take my first couple "no" for an answer. They regurgitate the same thing about how that 2% will add up to the cost of the executive portion of my membership (I don't spend enough for it to pay for the whole membership).

Here's why I won't, and why this annoys me. First, it's a high-pressure blitz when I just want to go home. Leave me alone. Second, and most importantly, Costco uses gift certificates like it's 2003. They do this on purpose though. They make make killer money on membership upgrades because they're counting on people forgetting their gift certificate (not allowed to use it online), people losing their gift certificate and not realizing they can ask for a new one, or people just not caring until it's expired. Load it onto my membership card where it can be applied to my next purchase, and I'd do it. They won't do that though because it would hurt their profits. I am too stubborn to participate in that hustle even if it might benefit me because I'm only out ~$5-$15/yr at most.

I continue to patronize them because I'll occasionally drive the 30 minutes to the brick and mortar store (in-person shopping there is still fun until I get to the checkout), but I mostly get in on bundles of discounted clothes for work each year. The convenience and savings on that alone is what pays for my membership.

tl;dr if you're buying this and not upgrading, expect to be harassed and have someone condescend to your math skills at the checkout lane more times than not

This sounds like you used the instacart service. Costco does not do same-day delivery in-house, they just offer instacart as an optional service for those who may require same day delivery.

Thanks OP, repped.

Groupon email has this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwaASrgVDVM which says will receive travel promo code. If anyone having this promo code and not using, do you mind passing it to me? I want to book a cruise for vacation. Really appreciate it.

There seems to be a wide range of what's allowable for entry and use at Costco. Personally I've walked into some clubs without needing to show my card, and others insist on it. The ones that ask but don't insist say that they only ask to see it so that you don't get to checkout and realize you don't have it. They have been clamping down on showing it for SCO though. I've never had to show it to enter the club via CS (e.g. to go to the food court). That said, there are others on here, seems to be primarily west coast (I am east) that say they are always asked even to go to the food court.

Parking ruins everything good about Costco for me. I like the store but not enough to crawl behind a long ass line of cars hunting for a spot in their maze. Once you find a spot it's exciting for about 5 seconds, until you get out and realize that you need binoculars to see the front of the store.

I don't know if its like this everywhere but my local Costco is always packed.

Certainly not everywhere. None of the ones I've been to in CT/NY are like that, maybe one day a year or something, but I've never personally seen it that way. Perhaps you live in a big metro?

Costco cheated me on Day 1

Got the membership through this deal so I could book cruise today for my vacation. Walked into the store to get the physical card. They sold me upgrade for additional $60 + Citi visa card with $50 GC and also 3% on my cruise booking. I thought good deal if I can book it using new card today. They told yes it will work. Anyways any travel you book through Costco, you pay only after you start the actual travel. So I can always change the card at last moment.
They gave me temporary credit card which does not work for purchasing online as it does not come with CVV. Also my card gets charged right away. So the deal for which I purchased everything is waste. Called Citi credit card, they told the membership people do this often by lying just to get more memberships and so their commission.

Bad experience with Costco, no idea why people like Costco.

I recently purchased the Surface PRO bundle from Costco. When ordering, they automatically applied an optional 10% tip during checkout. If you were to checkout too fast, you might not notice and pay an extra $100+ for nothing (jn my case). I was able to set the tip to 0% when completing the order.

The next day when the item shipped, they charged me another $30 to my payment method without explanation. It was only when I contacted customer support I was told it was a non-refundable fee. Come to find out, Costco uses low quality paid drivers to deliver your package, kinda like an Uber just for your local Costco delivery. The $30 fee must have gone to this driver. To top it off, the lady driver wanted to connect to my Wifi to finalize the delivery (confirm it was delivered). What a joke!

Nothing compares to your friendly Amazon delivery driver.
Delivery is by instacart, not Costco. It tells you that on the website.

That's a service for grocery (perishables delivered from your local store and pharmacy items).

You can order non-perishables and electronics from Costco and have the item shipped by Fedex or UPS.

Has anyone been able to verify their membership in the app? It's telling me I need to visit a store to get my digital membership card.

Did you get it sent from Costco or Groupon?

Got my membership today but Costco is certainly cracking down on everything. I used to share the membership ( you get 2 cards) with a relative. Today I had to show my drivers license and the 2nd card had to be the same address and last name. Never happened before
I stopped going to Costco in July (my membership expired in October) specifically because of this. I'm not paying for a membership to a store to be harassed by their employees. Damn near everything is cheaper at Sam's Club anyway and I can scan and go on my phone. I was tempted to renew with this and put it in my wife's name, but if they're still doing this, no thanks.

Did you activate in store or do anything else? I am still waiting for mine. I made the mistake of signing up in Nov, not knowing it immediately activated.

Not sure if it makes a difference at all, but ID.ME has the same deal available for military, first responders, etc.

Seems a little different mechanically in that you get a promo code through ID.ME, sign up for the membership directly on the costco site and enter the code when you register.

Just in case anyone doesn't want to go through Groupon.

Thanks I was able to access this one. I'd rather get the shop card directly from Costco. I don't see an expiration date anywhere though, do you?
