I was a solid HP guy for a long time. Since the company split into so many divisions, their printer quality has gone to shreds.

Once they bricked my Laserjet by refusing to provide software updates (at any cost) I was done with them.

I have two Brother all in ones in my home office. They're pretty much bulletproof.

My friend works for HP remotely and uses Brother printers.

I purchased a Brother 7860DW-MFC on 02/08/2011 for $131.23 and I thought that was expensive! However, it has turned out to be one of my better "investments." I have never had any issues with it and I only have used generic toner. I have bought 3 different no-name toner brands from Amazon and they all worked fine. I usually buy a box with 2 toners at a time. They have lasted years between refills. It's just a home printer, not a home office or office printer. The drum report shows it still have 30% life left. I use it primarily for making copies these days, but it was primarily used for printing documents in the past. I rarely use the fax and scanning functionality these days, but it's nice to be able have these abilities the 1-2 times a year I do need them.

I keep looking for a new Brother printer, but then keep reminding myself: why? My printer is good enough. Old doesn't mean I need to buy new, especially since it works.

These are awesome workhorses. I've already printed over 100,0000 pages on this model over the past 3 years. I've changed the drum twice, and even that doesn't have to be changed when it says it does. I just wait till the print quality drops. I'm a teacher in case you're wondering why I print so much.

No, just get a Canon printer. My last Canon laser AIO lasted for years and it was still going strong. I just decided to replace it even though I didn't need to (actually I wanted to try wireless capability). Never had a problem with it.

Adf is called auto docment feeder and yes mfc-l series are adf.. some are duplex scan (2sided) some are not.. the mono model with duplex is 2750.. hence the $200+ PRICETAG
