This is a good deal. We have been buying the Walmart generic brand at $10.88 for 20lbs or the Tractor Supply generic brand for $19.95 for 35lbs. Sometimes you just take what is available, but this is a good brand at a decent price.

it's really a bargain when you consider bulk of the generic bird food is Milo that 90% of birds will not eat and just toss out of the feeders

And I find that my backyard birds don't eat fruit from these bird food blends

My wild birds hate the millet. They literally just dump it out to get it the sunflower seeds. YMMV

I agree, that 20lb Walmart generic brand was literally around $6 about 2 years ago. Price skyrocketed but the quality didn't. I buy the 35lb Black Oil Sunflower seeds and mix that into the cheap stuff. And I'll also grab the Pennington CLASSIC ($25 for 40lbs) and mix that in there for the small white seeds. Not the Pennington SELECT which is usually next to it, that's $32 for 40lbs...that's too fancy. Smilie

The milo (red circular seeds) always gets kicked out, but we have Canadian Geese, and I don't let them by the bird feeders. I feed them cracked corn. Every week or so I'll take a shovel and grab all the milo and the stuff the "good birds" don't want under the feeder and I'll give it to the geese. They vacuum it right up, and it's less corn I have to buy. Dirty birds. Smilie

How waste free are we talking? Greatest mistake I ever made was putting my feeder near a ring camera. If you see the amount of rats they attract at night you'd probably consider looking at birds on YouTube instead.

Waste free practically means that you won't be paying for the added weight of any filler or seed hulls or shells that the birds won't eat. Birds will still drop a lot on the ground, which will be eaten by other birds (doves, pigeons etc, which are too large for the feeder), squirrels or other rodents.

If you're looking for general bird seed Tractor Supply is still a much greater value at 35 pounds for $18. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc...MMEALw_wcB

This is false. #1 ingredient in this mix is Milo which makes up bulk of the feed. 90% of birds dont eat it and just toss it out of the feeder.

Not sure what kind of birds you are feeding but I have been using this feed for years and the birds flock to it and sometimes wipe out a whole feeder in 48 hours. They are wild birds, they eat anything...

Bird will toss Milo out of the feeders. Just because it's not in the feeder doesn't mean it's been eaten. I suggest you observe your birds next time closely. Then rodents eat the Milo left on the ground at night.

Milo, which looks to make up +50% of the Tractor Supply bird food is a cheapest filler one can used in bird food. It won't be found in premium brands.
