According to this spec sheet ( https://storage-asset.msi.com/exc...-080US.pdf ), the motherboard in this prebuilt is the PRO B760-VC WIFI. This motherboard has 4 dimm slots, so if you wish to add 2 more sticks to run in a 4 dimm configuration (more stressful on the cpu memory controller, as it remains dual channel), you can. This beats every non-refurbished deal available over black Friday and cyber Monday by a decent amount. If you need a new mid-tier gaming prebuilt, and are only willing to purchase in new condition, this is probably the best deal you'll see for quite a while.

Hoping for some input. Nephew has a PC with these specs from 2020 "AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - 8GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX 580 - 2TB HDD + 240GB SSD". He says its not running great but I'm sure it can be made to run good again at a cost.

How much better is this deal compared to what he currently has if we were to buy this and sell his?

Idk something tells me there is a glut somewhere along the supply chain to be dumping these off so cheap. Maybe this is the start of a trend downward in gaming PC prices and we will see a lot more deals like this next year

That video card is quite old. I was using an equivalent to that before upgrading to a 3060ti. With that said, it's quite a big improvement. If his games no longer run smoothly, then an upgrade is inevitable. I'm guessing he plays first person shooters.

Not playing games at all would be better than playing games that don't run smoothly! Imagine watching a basketball game that skips a second every 2 seconds!

This case only supports 2 3.5" HDD slots. Also, the 13400F doesn't have a iGPU so it'll be using the 4060 for transcoding. I'm thinking of swapping out the 13400F for a 13500 since the iGPU will be more power efficient for transcoded

Yeah, I'm torn. I have a few weeks to make an ultimate decision. I have the BB system (unopened) and the Wal-Mart config is ordered.

It's not just the raw difference is in specs, but given that I don't replacae systems often, is the higher end system giving me a greater lifetime and/or headroom to upgrade?... although I don't do much in the way of hands-on upgrades or builds like I used to 15-20 years ago.

I probably should read up on the MB differences between the two systems, to see whether there are any major architectural differences I'm missing.

One of the reasons I replace systems so infrequently is that I hate all the options, paralysis through analysis, and buyer's remorse looking for "the one deal to rule them all" when no such animal exists and this week's system will be obsolete in a month.

Sigh.

I went with the Lenovo - Legion Tower 5i Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i5-13400F - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB LHR - 512GB SSD - Storm Grey

instead because they were the same price and I don't trust MSI Codex quality or customer support

but for this price I might bring it back to BestBuy

How much better is the 4060 and how limited are upgrade options on the Lenova?

I bought the best buy deal a month ago for 780$ it was i5 12th gen rtx 4060. Luckily its extended holiday return so i ordered this one and will return the bestbuy one.

I think MSI is a really good quality pc and the motherboard on this one is better than the Lenovo one so it's def more upgradeable. Rtx 4060 is 20% faster than rtx 3060. I bought this pc but 12th gen from best buy for 780 will return it though because i just bough this one.
