these were just released today and Ubiquiti is doing a good job of bringing them in and out of stock, if you want to buy one directly from Ubiquiti they are in stock right now. I think it's a pretty slick deal to have this device for less than $150. posting this because I know a lot of people have alerts and they may not even know this device was released today, I know I didn't.

If you are using 2.5gb, you aren't using it on this device. This is for small applications and travel even. You want 1+GB you will need to spend money.
Issue is 2.5g controllers don't cost much more, if at all. Hence why the cheapest motherboards have them now. Greater than 1gig internet speeds and wifi protocols are becoming the norm enough that products like these are becoming the bottleneck, even for 1 user.
If I had coworkers that wanted always-on remote VPN access, would this plus a dream machine on the office end suffice? I had been looking at Meraki for replacement for aging Cisco hardware (some users use anyconnect currently), but jfc it is expensiveyou should edit your post. I almost stopped reading after it 😉 it's like they are trying to not compete with themselves and trying to set boundaries, but I can't tell what those boundaries are 😂
they are just turning people off at this point.
I agree. Lol. I don't think anyone can tell what Ubiquiti is thinking at this point.
60 client max
1 Ethernet port on the back with no PoE. Not 4 like a typical router.
Gigabit Ethernet in (not 2.5gb) (many gigabit plans overprovision and you get 1.2 gigabits instead of 940 megabits using a 2.5gb port - 21% more internets for free!!
Make sure it is a good fit for you because a lot of homes I do tech help in have a Roku or smart TV or desktop or ip phone dongle or some combo of those so you need a switch or to buy something better right off the bat if you want a hard wired AP on the other side of the house.
This is good for apartments IMO
I can't figure out why all their new products are limited to 1 gig NICs. That's a deal breaker for a lot of folks from the getgo

It's a $150 device more capable than most need. Most people don't have gigabit uplink, let alone an accidentally overprovisioned one. Additionally, as a managed device there's a lot more to it than the controller. It's a budget device and isn't going to be a good fit for everyone.
It looks great to me for family members that need network help. It's priced better than unmanaged devices and allows me to remotely connect and debug if they have issues without the security nightmare of publicly exposing the admin page common on most consumer routers.

Perfect for my office. Added a U6-Mesh that didn't play well with my slower home network. Devices that disagreed with my old office routers now connect easily. Signal overall is strong everywhere. Remotely accessible with the ap. Big win. No Whammies.
