You are spreading disinformation. I am a licensed union electrician and we use nothing but these to install romex in residential construction with wood studs.

I wouldn't use those staples on electrical wires but to each their own.

Can't a staple get the same job done?

https://a.co/d/eFV2bKd
Nope, these are for securing NM (romex) electrical wire and the nails are substantially longer and have more holding power than even the largest staple listed there. Plus, the portion in contact with the wire/sheathing is plastic and offers insulation. The u shape to the plastic provides a built-in standoff from the substrate being attached to - so you can't pinch the wire vs. using a staple - imagine using either for a small wire like low voltage, a normal arrow staple would pinch the wire as it came close to flush with the substrate, these can't.

Licensed electricians never use these. As soon as I see these I know homeowner did electric work.
My licensed electricians did, I'm looking at exposed floor joists and seeing them everywhere. This would have been new construction around 2007 in my case. I have a strong feeling it's very much an individual electrician's preference and what tool kit he carries to fasten with.

Do licensed electricians use something else?

Just simple cheap metal wire staples link [gardnerbender.com]. Probably less than $0.01 each in bulk.

These plastic ones with the 2 nails are probably 2 to 3 times more expensive per staple. But easier to use IMO.

Besides the small price difference, the trades have a lot of old-school, don't-change-anything-if-this-way-works kind of dudes. If the new guy likes the staples with the nails he will never hear the end of it laugh out loud
