It's worth noting that it's UL 1278-tested and not UL 1278 certified. To be fair, even some mainstream manufacturers skip out on certification but space heaters that fail to protect properly are fire hazards.

I got the oscillating version of this and I like it a lot. I use the WiFi controls to make sure the room my hedgehog is in stays warm enough.

It's Remotely Control via App & Voice. So unfortunately you would use your phone, or Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, no physical remote control.

Smart devices are more likely devices with IoT technologies. They are connected to internet and you can control remotely or set up routines to control them instead of controlling them by yourself one by one. Mostly people don't utilize all features of them but on the other hand, the manufacturers don't provide enough APIs to let one software(Alexa, Google home or Apple home) to control all devices. For example, you have a lot of settings from app of this heater and it can be linked to your Alexa skills, but in Alexa you can only turn it on or off. If you want to change fan speed/heating temperature, you need to go back to its app or use voice commands to Alexa.
Yeah, that's all I'm seeing.... Still just a hot box with a thermostat and fan, and still a remote control to on/off the thing with temperature control like any other. I don't see anything smart about any of that, it's still the same as it's ever been just with maybe a longer range remote control via WiFi. Still wondering about the intelligence in the title since it's clearly not in the heater itself. I don't know about the rest of ya, but if you tell me a thing is red then I expect it to be red! If ya tell me a thing is smart, well guess what I expect.... But maybe that's just me.

How does the power usage of this cost in terms of electricity? Is it expensive to use if you need it for many hours in the day?

It absolutely falls under the "smart" category. Auto shutoff temp control and can control it thru Google or their app from anywhere in the world.

Are you expecting it to do your homework for you too?

Yes if you just read one random post and not the entire conversation. We were discussing using a cell phone as a remote vs a bespoke remote control. Go back and read if you are interested.

The $10 deal was awesome, wanted to order more but I was only able to snag one before sold out.

I guess I still don't understand what the argument is over a feature you're not plannng to use. The compromise is the buttons (assuming you're not interesting in voice commands or IFTTT).

You manufactured an argument against the phone app...I don't walk around with my heater remote either. I go and get it and put it next to me when I want that convenience. If I left the remote on my desk but suddenly remembered to turn off heater when leaving room...guess what I'd do - buttons! The way I see it...it's either got features you want or you buy something else. There was a lot of extra commentary.

I am sorry you don't understand, I tired of this conversation with the other guy so I am not going to take the time to help you understand sorry. You will have to go through life with this mystery unsolved.

Wouldn't this let you set your house/common area temp lower if they have thier own heater you cheap bastard
I'm as cheap as they get - and these little heaters are as inefficient as it gets when compared to central heat. Unless you're heating only a single space in your 4+ bedroom house - it's cheaper to just run the central heater. Three bedroom house - may be a bit of a wash.

Source: me doing paper napkin math a dozen years ago when I was considering my options. YMMV

P.S. They're great if you work in an office, and your office pays the electric bill for your under the desk heater. Wink

Anything labeled as a "smart" device is likely gonna need an app. I genuinely am not sure you understood that. Just trying to help. Might save you a few clicks next time.

Picked this up and I'm happy with it. Puts out a surprising amount of heat for how small it is. Also bought their remote temperature / humidity sensor to pair with it so it can auto cycle more accurately based on the temp of the remote sensor placed in our sitting area rather than the onboard sensor of the unit some 20 feet away. Nice thing as well is being able to wake up in the morning and switch it on via phone app when it's in another room to start warming up other sections of the house.

I'm too much of a thermostat nazi to let my family have control of a device like this. They'd all have their rooms set to 85F 24/7.
TLDR: Make sure family understands heat costs money and has environmental impact, but at the end of the day let them decide if the cost is worth it given their comfort levels.

As a kid with parents who set the heat way too low please unless you truly can't afford it listen to others about where the heat should be set.

I wasn't ever warm until I finally moved out.

Different people and bodies are comfortable at different temperatures. It really does suck to not have control or input about it.

I would make sure that folks understand heat costs money and is not to be wasted e.g. no having open windows while the heat is running and not leaving it running when not there etc. But in the end if they are actually using the heat let folks set it where they want it in their own areas.

And before anyone says wear more clothes... I wear quite heavy clothing at work, but my hands still get uncomfortably cold even with fingerless gloves. I honestly have not found a way to compensate with clothes that both makes me comfortable and be able to be productive during the day when the heat is set to 72. I really need 74 before my hands can be comfortable.

For work I recently got a heated desk pad. It has actually helped a lot, but even so it isn't perfect and having the ambient temperature a bit higher would help me more.

Does anyone find the controls/display/functionality of this heater very confusing, annoying, and badly designed?

1) When you power off, there is a like 10-second delay before the fan shuts off. So you have to look at the small little lights to confirm it was off.

2) Font is so small, you have to move closer to see.

3) Buttons are flushed so you cannot feel for it. You have to look at it. You also dont have to "press" it. You just put your finger on top like a trackpad.

4) Middle "Mode" is so confusing. It cycles thru..
I = Heat 1
II = Heat 2
III = Heat 3
Auto = Thermostat (degrees controlled only in App)
Fan = No heat (light/icon is next to Power. why?)
4) Timer button cycles thru..
1H = 1 hour
2H = 2 hours
1H+2H = 3 hours
4H = 4 hours
1H+4H = 5 hours
2H+4H = 6 hours
1H+2H+4H = 7 hours
5) On the Timer button colum, there is a timer light/icon that makes you think it will cyle to the time light/icon, but it doesnt. The app controls this which give you more flexibility to set timer higher than 7 hours.
