Also remember that tread count has nothing to do with quality and durability. We have a 220 count cotton percale fitted sheet from a high-end manufacturer that we've used daily for 28 months and is still like new.

They do cost more, but they are totally worth it in the long run. The percale weave is very durable, and the sheets and nice and thick. Our sheets have not pilled at all. There are a few stains from food from kids, but we can't fault the product for that.

I also bought woolrich branded flannel sheets from Amazon- they are heavy, thick and my best sheets so far.
Amazon's own jersey sheets are the worse ones in my list. Abrasive and pointless.
