Looks like T-Mobile is offering a hidden $10 hotspot plan ($15 before Auto pay). This is for consumer and business accounts. It's for BYOD hotspot devices only and connected laptops (so no phones or tablets). Looks like you will have to contact T-Mobile to get this. There will be a $35 activation fee as well. See the attached flyer and link for more info.

anyone succesfully converted the physical SIM to eSIM for use in Apple/Samsung phones, especially if you have another SIM for voice/Text
I dont know about consumer accounts (I have a business account), but in my account there was a panel to change device sim/esim. I put in my iOS EID and all went fine. Data has been working as you'd expect. There's no "technical" limitations, data is data, all the carriers just play games to segregate plans to make them each sound special so the consumer is buying as many expensive plans as possible.

Check if the T-Mobile 5g home internet is available. The price is good and in some areas it's amazing. Idk if it'd be cheaper than getting a phone and using a 5g hotspot but it'll likely be more stable.
$50 a month or $600 a year. Pass on that.

Anyone else call and have the rep tell you that they need the Hotspot's IMEI to process this? So annoyed to spend 15 mins on the phone and then have them tell me I can't activate without IMEI.

I got a smart tv for a senior long time friend and while the local channels are free, I would like to get her on amazon prime or netflix and those need hotspot. Would a T-Mo 5G smartphone be practical or is a wifi device better? So many have dismal reviews. Suggestions most welcome.
I'd say that a Wi-Fi device would be better for something like that. Using phone Wi-Fi for that can be kind of a hassle with reconnecting at times, as it's not as consistent / reliable as a dedicated hotspot for a constant connection. And a 4G hotspot would probably be fine for a while if looking for cheaper ones and don't necessarily need 4k res.

Are you locked into a contract?
No contract, however if you opt for the free Franklin Hotspot (optional) you would be on the hook for 24 months of payments that are canceled out with credits. I opted out of that. Will use a device I already have

I had the Frankilin T9 Mobile hotspot with T-Mobile and it was absolutely horrible it would constantly lose the connection and need to be restarted and wait a half hour. It got so bad we finally got rid of it. I'm not sure if it was the hotspot that was bad or just T-Mobile service.

The 600kbps (75 kBps) after burning through the 30gb allotment is much better than most and is faster than dialup speed an approaching ISDN speed

What hotspot is everyone buying? I could get the T10 for $14 on ebay, but don't mind paying more if there's a big difference.

No costco shop card, got fees waived, made new account.

It was simple, called the number, in my case I called the Costco t-mobile kiosk, asked to be signed up to the MI30TI plan. If you are not a Costco member use the phone number in the wiki, or better yet use the tmobile online chat. If you are a Costco member use 1-833-428-1765
