These panels don't allow the air to flow as designed. If Sony wanted a vent there they would have added one.
Yeah, I'm afraid these panels would cause the M2 storage device to overheat.

To add insult to injury most games I buy on disc require a 50-100GB download before they can even be played, and unlike the digital edition, I have to insert the original disc to play the game which is supremely annoying.
Ugh! Exactly. Which is why I don't see the point of buying disc drive. Game content is barely on it which requires internet to download the rest. Talk about broken offline physical media!

A colleague of mine in the game industry said that some games on disc are merely a tiny loader program that downloads the actual game from the internet. The disc is almost completely blank. You buy the game and have to wait 3+ hours to download a "day one patch."

You still need to walk across the room to insert the game disc when you want to play it, though, which is stupid.

Yea totally. Interestingly speaking, there are very small number of games that has almost everything. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2, Mortal Kombat Ultimate edition and such. It strange. But yeah your argument still stands as the majority of games are meant to be distributed digitally.

Many first party Nintendo games are playable off the card and do not require the game to be copied to storage. For PlayStation and Xbox, the only benefit of buying disc is the ability to resell.

Key word: ability…..to resell disc. That's only the benefit.

Though the resale value isn't typically good compared to cartridges.
