Are Hoka's that good? I see people wearing them, but mostly it seems to be people who don't appear to be actual runners. They strike me more as an over-priced status symbol for suburban keep-up-with-the-Jones types.
I bought my first (and only so far) pair of Hokas (Clifton 8) summer 2021, 4 days before a trip to Disney World. I also bought some good insoles at the same time. I felt like I was walking on a cloud the whole 5 day trip. I am not a runner but these have been my daily shoe for over 2 years now and just starting to show wear in the materials. I bought mine at full price and don't regret it a bit. I will likely get a new pair this coming summer.

I had Arahi 4's and loved them but they didn't last much over 200 miles. Never wore them for anything but running. I burn through several pairs in a year, so 50 cents a mile is a lot to pay for, even for good shoes. My go to has been the Saucony Omni, around $50 on clearance and lasts 500 miles. 10 cents a mile is far more manageable for a consumable product like this.

Recommended by my chiro- with regard to help on back pain (one of the brands). . It did a world of difference. It's expensive, but not necessarily a status symbol. I have tried a few shoes- while other brands like Saucony, Nike help, but Hokas are on a different level. He did recommend Nike, Saucony, Brooks as well. I am not talking about this particular model btw (as I have not used it).
I bought a pair, had high expectations but was let down. The carboard in the heel of the shoe started wearing thru material had to put duct tape to keep from rubbing heel. Now i am walking around in a hindered and fifty dollar pair of shoes held together with duct tape
