I have the same unit. Buyers need to know that the top covering the bottom drawer in the freezer is fragile glass. My wife accidentally dropped something very light on it and it shattered into a bajillion pieces. My hands were shredded and bloody doing the cleanup which took many passes because the pieces were so tiny. Lots of sweeping, shop vacuuming, and hand cleaning. We were concerned for our grandchildren who often walk barefoot around it. Worse yet, the way the glass broke, we could not open the drawer to replace it. A service rep had to finally come out after working with LG service for what seemed forever to get them to fix it. Even then, he struggled to remove it. Pieces of broken glass had lodged in the glide area preventing the drawer from being opened. Given the significant amount of plastic in fridges, I was surprised that this was not only glass but not shatterproof.

Seems like a good deal, although Best Buy and Home Depot have it for the same price with faster shipping. I switched from Costco to Sam's, but I have to say Costco definitely seems to have better deals.

I have Costco's version I got around the same price but with ice maker in the door. A few points… even the coldest setting on the fridge side seems to not chill completely to the bottom. Even with the "chill vent" right at the door for the fridge side items are cold but not as cold as my older fridge. Also, there's no deli drawer (aka 1/2 the size of a veggie drawer) which was missed and preferred. Also no light button on the water dispense… it activates only when pressed. Other than that, it's decent fridge so far.

I bought the same fridge from Home Depot and found the ice production sorely lacking compared to our previous unit, which incidentally worked well and made tons of ice. When I called LG, they advised lowering the freezer temperature and also ensuring that the nothing in the freezer compartment was up against the inside walls which could block the cold air from falling to the bottom. In my case, we had not packed anything against the walls but lowering the temperature did help make ice, albeit still way less than what we need.

Redesigned New Exterior

With a sleek new exterior and easy-access storage for all of your fresh and frozen faves—LG makes it easy to show off your best side with our redesigned side-by-side refrigerator. The modern exterior includes flat panels, discreet pocket handles and sleek touch controls—all of which speak to your stylish side.

Organization

For your organized side, there's top-to-bottom shelving that keeps fresh and frozen foods in easy sight and with easy access. Stock up for the week and store it all in the generous 28 cu. ft. of space. The factory installed built-in icemaker automatically makes ice cubes, so that you always have ice on hand for those hot summer days or when entertaining at home.

Sleek Design

The streamlined water dispenser features a design that's virtually flush with the door for a sleek, low-profile look. LG's PrintProof™ finish resists fingerprints and smudges for a distinctive kitchen that handles real-life in style. Now you can have all of the things you love about stainless, without the need for special cleaners or constant attention.

Door Cooling+

Multiple cooling technologies help to keep your food fresher, longer. Located in the top of the fresh food section, the Door Cooling+ vent extends the reach of LG's cooling technologies. Blasts of cool air help maintain consistent temperatures along the door, where favorites are frequently stored. And, it ensures more even temperatures from top to bottom in the freezer.

Linear Cooling

In addition, LG Linear Cooling senses temperature fluctuations and maintains temperatures within 1°F of the setting to keep produce fresher and maintain full flavors. LG's Multi-Air Flow System is designed to maintain superior humidity and temperature levels. Digital sensors constantly monitor conditions within the refrigerator and strategically-placed vents in every section to help surround your food with cool air no matter where you put it.

Are the compressors on the LG refrigerators better than the past ones?

Our LG fridge is almost 14 years old, and still going. We have noticed it getting loud like a ping pong ball bouncing around but still functions normally. Probably due for something new soon, but I figure 10 years out of any fridge is reasonable.

If your concerns are capacity, price, & reliability, get 2x smaller fridges that don't have through the door ice makers and put them side by side.
  • Less to go wrong on simpler models
  • Energy consumption is pretty similar
  • You lose less cold air each time you open the door
  • If you dedicate one to less frequently accessed things, it'll take less energy to just maintain temperature vs. having to offset the loss of cold air
  • If you're remodeling, it's not that much more than putting in a pantry cabinet
  • More capacity
  • More drawers / shelves
  • You have plenty of room to store things like batteries / nuts / flour so that they last longer (which offsets the reduction in kitchen storage)
  • If you have a power outage, you can get longer runtime on your generator if you just limit to powering one
  • If either fails you have a backup until you're able to replace it

As an example, compare with getting 2x of this 20 cu. ft LG model:
https://www.samsclub.com/p/lg-20-...od24965258
  • 1 fridge
    • $1045
    • 28 cu ft.
    • 687 kWh
  • 2 fridges
    • $1200
    • 40 cu ft.
    • 774 kWh

Depends on what you are looking for, I find Sam's club to be cheaper...and you dont have to hit $75 to get the free shipping like you do with Costco

Strongly recommend seeing the ice and water controls on the door in person and plugged in. No nightlight or light in general and not intuitive to use.

Agree that the controls are not intuitive. Everybody who uses ours tries to figure it out and ends up complaining. Even I forget sometimes.

I have this, replaced a freezer on bottom Samsung that was nothing but trouble. It's very reliable so far(1 year in approximately). One thing I didn't like so much is how little shelving it has in the fridge. I had an old side by side that I was getting rid of and figured out how to rig 2 of the shelves from that fridge in this one to make it more reasonable. But that's how empty they shelving area is, it feels like it's missing about 2 shelves worth of item organizing space. Also I agree with the water dispenser comments, the issue is when its dark and you are expecting water in your glass and someone has configured it for ice... it's a bit of a surprise, then you have to relearn how to switch it back to water(in a sleepy empty minded state). Not the biggest complaints though compared to the Samsung I had. Also be careful with the glass at the bottom, lots of reviews talked about people shattering the bottom shelves and based on how the shelves go in I could see this being possible if people put tension on the glass in the cool fridge environment combined with dropping(or roughly placing)an item with like a metal edge on it.

They've had these types for a few years now. I suppose it's got the look of a faux French door, but it's clearly advertised as side by side. Regardless, it won't have the ice maker problems that traditional French door fridges have always had.

It's still an LG, though, and you're going to get the quality/reliability issues. I absolutely loved my LG side by side but I had to replace it after 6 years (freon leak). I can't see myself going back to any LG/Samsung appliance.

Oh man, got excited and thought this was French Door (top is refrigerator and bottom is freezer) sigh. It's another side by side. I have side by side and French door one and French door one feels like it fits much more than side by side. It's so cramped with all that shelving taking up spaces.

Hah we had the opposite experience. Our LG French door fridge had a major problem after 3 years. The cost to repair was not reasonable since labor cost, which wasn't under warranty. We ended up just paid a little more than the repair estimate and bought a side by side Whirpool and found it fit much more stuff.
