I got in on a deal a couple of years ago for a bag of a 1000 8in cable ties and another bag 1200 4in. Each bag was $5. I think I have enough cable ties.

Same, I'm in for a pack at $4.21 shipped; thanks OP.

I've been using a powered stapler [homedepot.com] plus zip ties to secure outside Christmas lights to great effect. Seems to be better than just using staples as you can cut the zip tie and leave the staple for future application.

These will not hold anything. Do no use for weight, they snap easily. Only use is for cleaning up wires.

Yeah, that's what I use zip ties for most of the time. Monoprice Cable Tie Mounts [monoprice.com] really work well IMO and they are surprisingly reliable and hold their adhesion.

For outside permanent application I use staples plus zip ties to secure and manage wires; works well for me especially on Christmas lights.
