O.P. add Item no. 15000207 $90. Not often available, the Staub retro euro style covered fry pan with lid in what appears to be the 28 cm size. We've had the 24 cm version for 20 years. Excellent performance, incredibly durable, easy to clean, highly versatile. The textured enamel can accept seasoning if desired and is the toughest I've seen. When used correctly at low flame slow cooked eggs slide right out. Browns meat nicely. The wood handle is easily removed for oven use and or easy storage. The cast iron stub still provides a handle. I like the vesion with the square wood handle better but it is rarely available in the U.S.

I have this block and the 8" chef's knife from the linked set, bought together with some other knives at a thrift store several years ago. I don't remember what I paid but it was probably around $15. Not that it matters, but I just wanted the Henckels carving knife that was worth more than the rest of the bundle combined but I've ended up using the block for years, and everything else was given away.

I have better knives so the chef's knife has mainly sat in a drawer and only come out to cut pizzas on a sheet pan and when we don't want to f-up the edge on a good knife. It has actually held up well to abuse - not much use but all of its use is abuse. Certainly nothing fancy, but I think you could do a lot worse than this set.

The block isn't bad. Large steak knives don't fit. The other slots are all appropriate for standard sizes of knives. It's a decent choice if you need one.
