Power. Even a $25-60 Oster Classic only has a 700W motor. A Vitamix has about a 1400W motor. That power is important to create the blade speeds necessary to truly make smoothies. It spins so fast it will even chop up small seeds like in blackberries. There's a reason professional smoothie shops use Vitamixs. They perform well, they can be run almost constantly without overheating (if given enough liquid to actually blend), and they last seemingly forever. I bought mine in 2011. My dad's was purchased in the 90's, and it survived teenagers abusing it to make daiquiris and expiramental concotions for girls when he was out of town.

The difference is like comparing a Kitchenaid pro HD mixer, overkill for most things and massive on countertop.
The $50 Oster 1200 pro blender beats all for value, 1200 peak watts, 800-1000 watts sustain with metal gears. Not as smooth grinding as 6500, but no digesting microplastic due to it boro glass jar. You just have to fill it with half water to avoid burning the motor. Had mine for over 7 years.
the 1200 is meant to run a few times a week and day, 6500 runs a few times a day and hours with reinforced metal gears.
i have both of them in two houses.

The Oster 1200 doesn't seem to be available anywhere for $50. It's $105 at Amazon.

How's it perform? I tried a Ninja about 10 or 15 years ago. It was okay. Better than an Oster, but couldn't blend like the Vitamix.
