Been wanting Origins but price seems a bit too much for being so old

I would not recommend the PC version of AC2. It's a pain in the ass to get working and some things are not fixable. A console version just works.

Didn't Ubi announce a while back they are working on a remaster for Black Flag?

Black Flag isn't just one of the best Assassins Creed games, it's one of the best games period. The abstergo garbage just gets in the way of an otherwise near perfect game. I REALLY hope they do a remaster without the boring and convoluted Animus stuff. If you haven't played it, it's definitely worth this price even as an older game.

I recommend you buy it from epic game store during their upcoming winter sale where they might offer a coupon for 25% or 33% discount in addition to the discounted sale price. So, if AC Origins is discounted during the winter sale, as it was for the last 2 years I checked, you can take off the coupon discount on the already discounted sale price. In this manner I bought AC Valhalla COMPLETE during the recent Black Friday epc game store sale aka Autumn sale for usd 20 something. You can get the entire Ezio collection for 4 something on Xbox. You just need to VPN(Urban VPN is free and has a browser extension) to redeem it.

I have black flag on uplay and I've tried to get into it but can't. I prefer to use a controller on a PC connected to a tv, but to play black flag I have to re-login to ubisoft every time I launch the game (i.e., there is a secondary password check just to start black flag). Ubisoft says this is a security measure, but it's annoying and having to drag out the mouse/keyboard just to satisfy another password check just ruins my mood.

Anyone know if the steam version just works or is it still mediated through uplay?

Friends don't let friends give money to Epic. Horrible company, horrible software. IDC if it is through Ubisoft's launcher. Even most of the freebies aren't worth it because they run terribly on PC. No, it's not my hardware, I have a $5K 13700K/4090 build. Can't even run Fortnite at 1440p capped at 60FPS on *low* settings without crashing more than a damn crash dummy. Name literally any other game on any other store, even graphically intense ones, and I can run the highest of high/ultra settings at 1440p/165Hz and my rig doesn't even break a sweat. I'm finishing the couple of freebies in my backlog I want to play then I'm deleting EGS permanently.

Not to mention the damn hypocrites banned my username (same as here) because of "inappropriate content" but it's totally cool to knowingly promote and profit from "Dude Where Is My Beer?" and "Need for Spirit: Drink and Drive Simulator" on their store. Directly from their Community Guidelines:
"Dangerous or Illegal Activities
Don't participate in or encourage illegal or dangerous activities within the community, including gambling, illegal drug use, phishing, human trafficking, prostitution, doxing, swatting, or sharing content that glorifies or incites violence. Threats of harm to yourself or others are taken seriously—don't make them, especially as a joke."

Or this from their Content Guidelines:
"Illegal Activities
Don't contribute to content involving or promoting illegal activities, including harassment, bullying, assault, doxing, swatting, gambling, illegal drugs, animal cruelty, fraud, hacking, or piracy. Content that condones or incites violence against others has no place here."

Mighty ironic, isn't it?

500 appeals, and many colorful emails & chats later (because the wusses can't be bothered with a phone number), and I still don't have my name reinstated. But I've taken screenshots of countless names similar to or worse than mine and they run free. A few examples of several dozen are "Moonshineheehaw9", "SteamySack", "OGKush98Mt", "Béèrrüñ", and "fallguyspopstar5" (Epic clearly states in their TOS that nobody can have a username that has an Epic product within it).

Need I remind everyone of the FTC settlement for predatory microtransactions aimed at minors?

Fark them.

I have black flag and i just cant get into it i tried multiple times over the years i guess assassin creed games just aren't for me.

I felt exactly the same but stuck with it. Not sure when it clicked, but I'll be damned if it isn't one of the best games I've ever played.

I want to add that Freedom Cry [steampowered.com] is an amazing game as well. It's based on the Black Flag map but is its own self-contained story. The whole game takes 4-6 hours to beat making it a great entry point for newer players and a great weekend game for when you want to play AC, but don't want to invest 20-60 hours.

I know I'm really in the minority here but AC3 was my absolute favorite in the series while black flag I felt just had a terrible story that really didn't build up enough of anything to be interesting. To each their own, I know black flag is one of the most popular and ac3 the least but for me personally it's the opposite.
