Here's the deal, i just spent so much time researching this. I tried to restore my mother's 40+ year old 6 qt 600 professional stand mixer and the part i needed was going to be over $100 to fix it so i decided to look into buying a new one, especially at costco. Turns out that they are about to discontinue the professional line and as previously mentioned they are going to a new design with a different motor type (i believe DC is the new one) and there are pros and cons to it. The newer motor is stronger and should be better, but the down side is that it's like all in one assembly block and if it goes bad from over use or leaving it on when dealing with dough too long it could burn out and to repair it, could cost $200 to $300 (estimating i'm not sure on replacing the block). Where as this version, the professional line that is being discontinued, has the older layout that can have individual parts repaired. To me i decided i wanted to be able to repair the unit, i was almost able to repair my mother's unit for about $80 or less but the components are so old and they don't manufacture them anymore, but you can find the newer parts for this current model easily. There is a bit of maintenance that you have to do with a kitchenaid stand mixer, like you need to clean/replace the grease inside the unit. Maybe with the new one you don't have to do that as much, i'm not sure.

There aren't really any videos that i can find going through the pros and cons of the old vs new style. I was hoping that a kitchenaid repair specialist i watched on youtube would have a video on it but he doesn.t

TLDR: Pro 600 being discontinued, replacing with new motor that is harder to repair.

btw i paid $220 for a refurbished 600 with all attachments minus the bowl guard, it was on walmart and officially sold by kitchenaid. That is by far the best place to get this mixer cheap but you have to look at it a lot because they have been sold out a while, they put up random stuff there. Also their refurbished page has great deals too, but they are slightly cheaper when bought through walmart.com

Thanks, got it. What a weird setup for an e-commerce site. It popped up and said that promo code can't be used for this item and it would update my cart...then it refreshed and the discount was still applied. Worked in the end. Thanks again

If you do thick doughs (cookie or pizza for instance) the lift style is MUCH better. Plus this has the strongest motor of any KitchenAid mixer. I jumped on the deal.

The Tilt head mixer is easy to add ingredient, but not good for heavy dough. If you make a lot of bread, pizza dough, and heavy mixer, the Bowl lift is way to go. Some people don't like the bowl lift because isn't easy to scrap the stuff off the side or add ingredient without stopping the motor and move the bowl up. This model has both plastic and metal gear. I am not sure this has plastic or metal gear. I do have Costco Pro 600 series 590 watts version and do come with metal gear. Good Luck.

I ordered something from QVC once, but never again. The product came used/returned item and can't return. They passed the issue to manufacture and can't contact them. Since the item under $100, I end up with used item with issue.

The Pro 6000 HD is much better, but cost more. However, finding internal replacement parts may be a different story.
