So the cat/dog supplies the heat. WTF? I guess a blanket is a self-warming device too. Marketing BS. It's insulated... period.

Actually, there's a structural difference in these pads marketed as "self-warming." There's a reflective, metallic thermal sheet inside these not found in a run of the mill bed or pad. The purpose is to limit radiative heat transfer from the top of the pad to the bottom so the top of the pad stays warmer.

I'm always searching K&H pet deals at Amazon and bought 4 of these this morning. $8 is a no brainer. These are nice and thick and wash well. Perfect for elderly cats and dogs with winter coming. We have tons of K&H beds, heating pads, cuddlers, cots and window perches. Everything is high quality and animals love them. K & H makes quality stuff.

Really, though, I thought this was electric, at first, but it's not. Over 8,000 reviews and a 4.6 rating, FWIW, so mist be doing something right. Looks like a g around $13 over past year per CCC, with some spikes higher and lower than that, here and there.

While I don't know that I agree with self warming, it might work better depending on circumstance. Bedding, reflective and insulation layers, using on top of cold concrete or similar.

All I can tell you is I have this companies Electric mats and beds and all of my cats love them, it's a must for colder to colder areas and sick or older cats.. They don't always take to it right away but they do once they figure out what it is and I found a light towel over the top of the electric mats work great...

My buddy always curls up in his cat condo when it gets cold. I feel like that's more "self heating" than a flat bed. Since their body heat helps keep it warm. Lol
